We went to Ovacik again this year but in May instead of September and it was very quiet but we went all inclusive for the first time and as prices have gone up again in Turkey it was the best thing that we did. Maybe other people are doing the same thing?
On no! All this talk of "chavs" and " kiss me quick" is filling me with dread again. We are going to Marmaris ( I booked it on travel agents recommendation and didn't find out until later what it was like)in October. I tried to change but it was going to cost another £600, honest, and accomodation was limited. We have convinced ourselves it will be fine and if it is really bad we can just spend most of the time in Icmeler. I hope I'm right Still we will make the best of things and are looking forward to it anyway, 10 weeks to go
I live in a tiny Cornish village, population about 300, no mains gas, no street lights,
and I must admit, I hate crowds, and crowded places, so somewhere like Marmaris
would be my idea of hell.
My next door neighbour however, loves Marmaris, and says it's not rough, just lively,
and after living somewhere so quiet, she looks forward to a couple of weeks in lively Marmaris.
(she tried Oludeniz this year, but says it was too quiet for her)
Everyone's holiday destinations differ greatly, and whist some absolutely love the bright lights,
and lively resorts, some prefer peace, quiet, and relaxation. (My kids call me a boring old fa**)
I'm sure you'll find somewhere nice and quiet to relax in Marmaris, plus, you
are going later when it's not quite so lively. Have fun 6 and a half weeks to go for me
Do you not think its a bit offensive to tar everyone with the same brush?
Marmaris is a very large resort and one side of it differs from the other, it also has lots going on for families (I don't take my children away to be bored stiff).
I think wherever you go on holiday you run the risk of encountering the "family from hell" but please don't label me as one of those just because I happen to enjoy Marmaris!!!
P.S I also enjoy the Carribean so does that make me a snob?
each to their own, but i do like to see a bit of life while on holidays and my family have always enjoyed a great time in marmaris
Yes it was quieter than it had been, but still quite busy the best places were full every night, one of the things they will have to watch out for is "Killing the Golden Goose" prices have really gone up, there does appear to be a bit of profiteering going on, it really is not much cheaper than most European resorts nowadays, strange thing is away from he resorts prices are much cheaper in fact not much dearer than a couple of years ago.
In this day and age people will abandon a country at the drop of a hat, and for the elusive northern European market competition is very stiff, I am hearing reports of some pretty hefty discounting from Spain and Greece in an effort to win back holiday makers, Turkey beware
Calm down calm down Mickyjo, of course not everyone who goes to Marmaris is a loud mouthed chav nor is everyone who goes to Blackie..Each to their own, but I personally prefer to go somewhere quieter these days and less commercialised where I will be less likely to bump into the "families from hell." I've been there done that and got the t shirt, so if I'm going to spend the money to go abroad these days I'd rather go somewhere nice otherwise I might as well go to Blackpool or Barry Island.
the one thing about marmaris your only a dolmush ride away from icmeler peace and tranquility
OOps I hope I didn't offend anyone . My issue with Marmaris was just that when I go away I want to experience the country I am going to, not a mini Britain abroad. I don't want to eat British food either and so somewhere a bit more authentic would have been my first choice. My kids are not ones for clubs and games round the pool though so maybe we will gind that it suits us with so much to do. Anyway each to their own, I have been to 5* resorts costing the earth ansd still encountered people, (not always families with kids I have to say), that I would rather avoid. There is a wee snob lurking in all of us methinks
being welsh i prefer Barry Island to Blackpool. . We chose the wrong resort for us when we went to turkey (Hisaronu) i really couldn't understand why so many people returned 2 or 3 times a year every year , again its each to their own , even tho it wasn't for us i would return to turkey but try another area or resort

Is the Butlins camp still in Barry? That was the last time I went there when we had a day trip probably over 20 years ago now. If I remember rightly it was a bit run down and not as nice as the one in Minehead which we still go to occasionally, but now my kids are teenagers they're not interested in going any more.
I have to say that the loud mouth families from hell aren't always from England either, there was a dreadful Dutch family in our apartment last year and we had chosen somewhere nice and quiet to get away form people like that

I totally agree! It's not just Marmaris it's some parts of Spain too that I wouldn't go to even if I was paid to go. I know some people might think it sounds snobbish but if I'm going abroad I want to get as far away from everything British as I can. I can't stand this country as it is so I don't want to be reminded of it when I go away on holiday lol.

No they're not all English even though we're known for being drunken thugs abroad. For us last year in Cuba it was a drunken Canadian bloke who was harassing every single table in the bar area, he even came up to my 15 year old niece and started stroking her hair at which point he was escorted out by security. I won't even mention the old rich men who bought in young Cuban girls to the hotel every night.
Back to good old England. It has to be Burnham -on-sea that does it for me.
(I think it's got something to do with the fact that once you've waded through the mud to find the sea, you can then splash amongst the discarded Tesco trolleys and burned out cars...................Lovely)!!!!!
Why do I get the impression I might not like Hisaronu?????

LOL! I actually prefer Brean myself, a bit more posher me thinks but never again will I do Pontins in a self catering budget apartment!
Just the sight of an amusement arcade does it for me...................................And I'm off
It's the Las Vegas of the South West, you can hear them machines as soon as you hit the Avonmouth bridge!
I watch families coming down to Newquay, (30 miles from me) and wonder WHY??
Newquay is lovely if you're a surfer, but that's about it!!!
It's Britain's answer to Benidorm, and makes the local news for all the wrong reason's most evenings.
Certainly not the place to take kids.
The beaches are beautiful, but beware of the hypodermic syringes and booze bottles!!!!
Sadly though, it's the only place in Cornwall people seem to know,
and so many beautiful places go undiscovered.
When deciding on Turkey, I asked the tour operator for a nice quiet resort, and was told Hisaronu
was just that!!
I don't suppose they're bothered as long as they sell the holiday.
I suppose we'll make the most of things, and we ARE staying in quieter Ovacik,
but I will do plenty research into locations before I book in future.
Tarunc looks more like my type of resort!!
