I get the feeling all the hotels in Ovacik are situated at the top of a steep hill.
We're staying at the Hotel Perdikia, and according to reviews, it's a lovely hotel,
but many people complain about the steep hill.
No probs for us though,
we live in a village with a very steep hill we have to climb every day,
so it will be a doddle, and like home from home for us
Its good to have a hike to burn off all those extra calories!!!
We love calis and its nice that people mainly dress up a bit in the evenings, not too many overweight dads in Nylon footy shirts. we are suprised then, to discover that most of the restaurants are the chips with everything variety. Last year we frequented the Bamboo restaurant which did high qaulity cuisine with always a choice of veg and only one of the kids meals having chips as standard. Unfortunately this restaurant is now called Dennis The Menace ( i kid you not) Its part managed by a character known by many as Rushy ( looks like Ian rush the Footballer) This guy had his own place last year called Rushies and it did great homemade Pizzas and Burgers at lunch time.Apparently got turned over by his landlord and is now front of house at dennis's. Foods alright, lunchtime burgers and Pizza is frozen rubbish and the cocktail bar is to be avoided.
For somewhere great to eat, go out of back of Remer, up to the beach, turn left along the walk and when you see the Tattoo/ hair braiding place, go in the Italian looking place there. They do fantastic steaks on wood platters with creamy mash, jackets, roasties etc. great Chicken and fish dishes. Oh and the guy with the gift place just before the tattoo shop gives regular money changing customers a better rate too.
If you go on jeep safari trip, find out first if it stops off at the carpet factory where they take an hour of your time and do a hard sell ( not mentioned in the itinary)
The weather is a bit strange at the minute, we had two days of cloud and five minutes of rain. The locals have seen nothing like it in August in thirty years. They were very much struggling with the unusually heavy humidity too.
thanks madbobly for your info it was helpfull hope you have a good holiday
They have now got wise with the money and are charging the same as england for clothes and bags even some cases they were dearer.
Sorry if i am posting this Q on wrong page but couldn't seem to find the right one lol
I've just phoned my mobile service provider t-mobile to activate my phone for roaming and check prices on calls/ texts. I am going to marmaris on 17th sept for two weeks . I was somewhat annoyed to find the cost of international calls n texts WILL NOT be coming out of my monthly allowance ... and i will be charged extra for using it £1.50 a min to make/ receive calls and 40p per text (free to receive texts tho ... very generous of them !!!)
Anyway a friend recommended taking a cheap open phone n buying a turkish sim card ... is this easy to do ? are they ready available ... is it easy to top up, and... sorry.. more Q's lol... does anyone know the rates for calls n texts on them please ?? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated thanks
You'll find plenty of information if you use the search function and enter 'mobile phone', for example Mobile Phones. It depends how much you want to use it really, but the easiest, and in most cases cheapest, is to simply purchase a phone card and use the public phones. You can't simply purchase a local sim card and put it in your phone. You may need to unlock your phone and the sim card will need registering locally.

We uusally go to a Greek island but I went on a girls 18-30 holiday to Gumbet last year and really enjoyed it! Also managed to get a cheap deal and Turkey is pretty cheap anyway.
Hotel is 3* but have read the reviews and alot of people have recommended it. Planning on doing a jeep safari and a boat trip! Can't wait now!
I am looking for a hotel in Turkey ( never been before) for the October half term. A late deal would be great it is for a friend and myself and 4 children ages 9,8,and 2 x 6 year olds. We want a place with a good pool and a kids club in case they wish to join. All inclusive option also.
Any recommendations would be really helpful.
Thanks
Hi - We are going to Tuscan Beach Resort on 25th September. Can anybody tell me what the rooms are like for sleeping arrangements? There will be 3 adults and 1 child. The pictures seem to show all the beds in one room - is that right?? Little bit concerned as two of the adults snore badly lolol
magsward,
I am newbie here. But i am confused a bit. I am planning my 7 day holidays to turkey with my wife (first time to turkey). Can spend around 750 per person for flights and hotel. I am looking to stay in a luxury hotel and with sea view room. Also ideal if we can out back to a city to enjoy Turkish city life i.e. restaurant bars. and also can go and see some attraction around
After a bit of research I found that olu deniz could be the right place ( I am open on suggestions for any other place).
Now I have looked around to book room at lykia world and at the moment there are two rooms on offer 1st one is in village area (Cheap) and second one is the suite in residence ( expensive but with in budget). If any one lived in the residence suite please share your experience.
Also please advise if the LW is the right choice or I can get a better place with amount of budget. i.e. Antalya, Bodrum, Marmaris.
I have to book as early as possible so please guys help me intaking the decision
Regards
Shaz
Hi everyone, I'm Dawn, married with 2 boys aged 8 & 13, first visit to Turkey planned for Easter, look forward to chatting to you all and thanks to those that have helped me out already! x
Would like to see some up to date costs of food/drinks/prefumes/tours/fake goods also, is Magners available in Marmaris? i'm guessing Guinness isn't heeh
any info will be gratefully read thanks in advance
If you do manage to get Magners it will be very expensive, all imported drinks are. You can get Guiness i some places but again it is very expensive. You would do best to stick to Efes, the Turkish beer
Efes do a dark beer which although is not quite like Guinness it is very nice, give it a try. When ordering things like G&T always ask for Turkish gin as it is less expensive than imported drinks. The tax on alcohol has risen again. Last year a beer was somewhere around 5 lira and if you were lucky a bit less in a back street bar but I read somewhere it would be 7 lira now. Expect a meal out to be much the same as in UK, meat is now very pricey. However if you are canny and look out for where Turkish people eat away from the harbours and beach sides you will find some cheaper places. Pide houses are pretty good. Hope you have a fab holiday.
You can also get a Turkish cider. My son in law loves Magners and drinks the Turkish cider with lots of ice and says its okay. As the season hasn't yet started in loads of Turkish resorts, nobody really knows what the charge will be for drink - and there is always competition among the bars. Also, the exchange rate against the lira is a lot higher than it was last year, so you may not notice massive price increases. Let's hope sio anyway!
Have done lots of things in Turkey on past visits including 3 gulet holidays but am open to any suggestions for things to see and do from the experts. It is about 15 years since we were last in Turkey so there may be other things to do now that we don't know about.
Which area are you planning on visiting? If you have been to some of the major tourist hot spots maybe you could consider some of the quieter and stunningly beautiful areas. Try the Bozburun and Datca peninsulas. They are not places where tour companies go and you will need to DIY but it is easy enough with plenty of small hotels to choose from.
We are staying in Icmeler. When we last visited this area there was only one hotel here - obviously changed a lot! Don't mind so long as the weather is good.
