I am complaining. I am sending a letter. I came on here for help not for people question my reasons for complaint,
So send your letter. Each of us is free to do as we wish - BUT - You have come on the site and asked for help/advice/opinion - call it what you wish. There is no guarantee that the answer you receive is the one you wish to hear. But it is only polite when you do ask and receive the help/advice/opinion to say thank you. It is bad manners to reply in the way you have done.
You were invited to post a review on her, instead you suggest we look at another site. Are you suggesting that HT is not worth your time writing a review?
Personally I think most of your "complaint" is without any substance - and if truth be told so do you. How do I know. Easy you have told us so. I quote -
finding people that had complained for the silliest things and received hundreds back in vouchers/money! Thought why not add it to the letter and try too!!
Here on HT we do not wish to be associated with people who are more interested in trying to screw the TO than the truth!
I am normally polite and helpful but in this case I am making an exception.

Note to Mods - perhaps it may be best if this topic was locked.
I asked for help with a complaint letter that is it. I am not bothered if you or people disagree with me on the reasons I am complaining.
There has been many kind helpful people that I have thanked.
I have never once been rude to you and only said I have the right to complain and disagreed with you on the reasons for this.
I think it is you that does not like what you have read and taken offence.
I have not replied in a rude way just stating facts, really you should not be so defensive at the slightest remark. I have just taken time to re-read the whole thred and honestly there is nothing on here that I have posted to cause offence to you or anyone else. I suggest you do the same.
Yes you asked me to post a review - and as I already replied above, I said the website will not let me post a link.
I tired to post and got a message on my screen stating I have not made enough posts on the website to enable me to post a link.
It really is laughable that you would say its not worth my time to post on HT.
To be honest my other review took me a very long time (all day) to write and if you are so interested in it and not offering help and advice like the title asks for its only 3 clicks away!
I did not come on here to post a review otherwise it would have been on the reviews section and not the complaints!
As for saying that truth be told I really know there is no substance in my complaint, I really do not have to defend my self to someone who knows nothing about me or my holiday. Enough said.
I will not rise to your comments and again would like to thank all the helpful people that have posted the details that I came onto here to find out.

Back to topic please.
MarkJ HT Mod
I think MarkJ (mod) made very good points in the first response to this thread.
Re the comments about posting reviews on Tripadvisor and not on here, I always do both.
I did learn (the hard way) that once you have posted your review on here you can't copy it to post elsewhere so I always do my reviews in MS Word and post to both sites.
So, rilou81, why not just copy your review and post it on here instead of trying to do a link?
rilou81, I do strongly disagree with this statement of yours:
If its in the Caribbean or yorkshire I don't care and 5* is 5* no matter what country.
I can assure you that * ratings in different countries can be very different.
For example, a 4* or 5* in Goa or Sri Lanka is totally different to a 4* or 5* in many Far East countries.

If you wish to post a review for us rilou81 here is the link to the hotel:-

The confusion maybe that rilou81 isn't aware that we also have a review site If you wish to post a review for us rilou81 here is the link to the hotel:-

I quite agree but when I read.
finding people that had complained for the silliest things and received hundreds back in vouchers/money! Thought why not add it to the letter and try too!!
Then I consider it against the whole ethos of HT. We are here to help with "genuine" complaints - not to condone/assist those who think they can play the system. By doing so it devalues the help and advice we give. HT then becomes just another forum rather than somewhere people can come for the "unbiased" help/advice we are so proud to boast.
After all our title does contain the word "truths"

Really I hate all silly arguments and discussions like this. There is enough that goes on in people's lives but to have to come on a website and do them too is not a nice experience. I actually went to bed feeling quite sad then woke up this morning and came straight on here to check this. Not what I want to do with the first weekend off with my husband now we are back at work
As said before everyone is different. I have stayed in many resorts and also the sister resort to the one I am complaining about. My complaint is genuine and not silly in the slightest. I am not going into details again as it just causes a fight
Glynis, had no idea you are correct. I'll be honest ive only ever been on tripadvisor and posted on there. I only found this website when I put in 'First choice complaints' into the internet. I have not had a very nice first experience on here, which is sad as I have made lots of (Virtual) friends from tripadvisor and lots of people who are like minded with holidays. I will copy and paste my review from TA today and post it onto here too - be warned its HUGE ha ha!!
Again I would like to thank the people who have offered my good advice that I am going to put to use xx
I think that you may find it hard to get compensation because you have openly said that you have had a fantastic holiday on two forums. I think your main disappointment is because the " Excellence " holiday you had the year before in Cancun was so perfect.I think you should shorten your list of complaints to whats really important to you and how you would like them to correct the problems you had ( like the wait for your room etc )
What I would suggest is that you write to the CEO/Chairman of Excellence Resorts , or the group that owns them( Viva Hotels ?) and say whilst you had a great holiday in Cancun.....these are the problems you had in Punta Cana and hope they will be corrected as you still want to continue having holidays at the Excellent resorts.Don't ask for any compensation at all. They might just reply and sent you vouchers that you can use for your next holiday.
Glad you and your husband both are better
Yes, totally true, its defiantly comparable to the holiday we had in Mexico and we were sad to not receive the same attention to detail after all the research we did beforehand. We spoke to so many people that had been both resorts and loved them, it was a hard decision as we would have gone back to Mexico in a heartbeat!
No we are not asking for any compensation, never wanted to I just want these things addressed. We are also going to write to Excellence resorts as you suggest.
On a positive note we have decided to try their new property in Mexico for next year!!! So its not put us off xx
What do you think? Should we ask for money back in 1st letter of wait to see what they say?
You followed that up with.
finding people that had complained for the silliest things and received hundreds back in vouchers/money! Thought why not add it to the letter and try too!!
Now you say.
No we are not asking for any compensation, never wanted to I just want these things addressed.
You are the person who raised the subject and are then offended when someone questions your motives.
Nobody is objecting to you making a complaint. It is quite right that people should complain if things are not to the required or advertised standard, that is not what is being questioned. You raised the question of compensation I simply expressed my opinion quoting what you said.

Thanks x
rilou81 also said in her 2nd post:
What is a normal amount to ask for? What should I expect?
which clearly shows an intent to ask for compensation.
Nothing wrong with that per se (although I too abhor this compensation culture that appears to have found its way into the UK) but those 3 comments definitely contradict later statements that she just wants these issues addressed.
Regardless of what she wants out of this, I hope that First Choice and/or Excellence Resorts do address the valid points that they fell down on.
I think Hovis has made a very good point here
I think that you may find it hard to get compensation because you have openly said that you have had a fantastic holiday on two forums.
Right I have been on to post my review and its in 2 sections, do I just copy and paste it all in any of them? or do I have to break it down into sections?
Isn't one part about personal details, another about the hotel and the third about the resort itself?
If your review is solely about the hotel, you post it in the blue section.
Do you have any comments about the resort itself?
I originally posted with jet lag, in a rush and only did points. If if is going to keep getting re-posted and dragged up then I shall have to address it. I only asked about compensation after speaking with a man on another forum who complained about a queue for his check in at premium, he got £100 back and told me to expect something - that was it. Again I only asked him for advice about complaining. I then posted on here straight after. I did not realise my post would be scrutinised so closely otherwise I would have clearly made this clear.
I do not expect compensation, I don't need it. I just want to complain.
I am not contradicting myself I just have maybe not made the original post as clear as I could, jet lag will do that.
I am not going to address this again, if people want to keep going over old ground you are welcome but I am not trying to score points and see not need in the direction this thred has taken. I feel quite sad and think in future I will stick to the forums I feel welcome on xx
People 'scrutinise' posts closely as they are going to be offering advice based on the information you provide.
Nobody was aware that you had posted with jetlag and in a rush. You only mentioned this in your last post.
Your original post (and subsequent 2 posts) clearly mentioned compensation.
You received replies based on that premise.
FWIW, I think the quality of advice offered on this specific sub-forum (Complaints section) is far superior to any other website I've found.
£100 compensation for a complaint about a queue at Premium check-in?
I'm not saying that that wasn't what he told you, but it sounds extremely unlikely to me.
Thanks again to everyone. I have enough advice of what I came on for. I have tried on many occasion to keep this thred positive but it keeps getting dragged back to debates, I do not wish to be part of them .
Our reviews comprise of two parts, after you have completed your personal details. The first part is specifically related to the hotel, the second part is where you can comment on the resort. If you have no comments on the resort, leave that part blank.
To condemn this web site based on the experience you have had is pretty infantile. Sometimes we don't like what we hear but that is the risk we take when we ask for advice. We are not right all of the time but again we are not wrong all of the time.

Couldn't agree more! Well said. Paula
