I am looking for an apartment to book for next August close to that location which would have been ideal. Do you know of anywhere that takes private bookings?

ruth, if you have a look on icmeleronline, they have lots of apartments, and would be able to tell you which is closest, they can also get them cheaper than sometimes booking direct with the apartments themselves. they also do flights ect, so could put it althogether for you....i have used them a few times...

travelrepublic ect also seems popular, but i have never used them.

palm gardens, run by Ali and Seb, only deal with firstchoice, and we have stayed there several times, excellent location!
