I can't comment on the hotel but as it located directly on a beach I can confirm that the beaches in Tunisia are lovely so you should have no worries there.
A lot of people don't like the culture of shopkeepers trying to hassle you into their shop and having to haggle over prices, and also having to tip this is very strange to them and it puts them off their holiday which is reflected in reviews.
My advice would be to go with an open mind and decide for yourself, if you accept that the culture is different from ours, when you go out of your hotel you will find that everybody is really friendly and a no thank you or La Shukran will often suffice.
If you have a chat or a joke with both the staff at your hotel and shop owners you will have a much more pleasant time, and as I mention the Tunisians are lovely.
I have posted some info re tipping which you can find HERE
Don't worry about going, I am sure you will have a great time in Tunisia

thanks graham the things you mention dont bother me we have had it before in sharm and turkey i do make every effort to get on with the locals so hopefully everything should be ok thanks for your reply x
If you have been to Turkey and Egypt I am now positive you will enjoy Tunisia, I thought the Tunisian shopkeepers were amateurs compared to the Egyptians
thanks graham im looking forward to it now
Hi we have been 3 times to the sahara beach but the last. Time was about 7 years ago , we loved it every time and even then you used to get people complaining about minor things , we chose to ignore them and had 3 great holidays , since then we have been to various places and although again enjoyed them have missed the sahara beach so have booked again for 27th July 11 for 2 weeks can someone tell me if the zoo is still there and also the noddy train ? Also is there still horse riding ?
hi gramps just returend from sahara beach this morning i heard someone say the zoo was still there but did not see it myself noddy tain is still there and there is still horse riding they are just starting to do it up a bit it does need painting and smartening up it will be a thomas cook only from next year thomsons and first choice have pulled out it is a nice hotel lovely food brill staff but just too quiet for us there is nothing to do xx
Thanks for the update I am presuming there was nothing to do because of the time of year ? Not sure about the Thompson only thing for next year because we have booked with first choice for july 11 ? Just hope they don't cancel it at the last minute or something !!
hi gramps i would just check there are posters up all over the hotel telling you about the plans it does not give dates it just says summer 2011 as far as nothing to do i mean in the area outside. in the hotel there is just the animation team in the daytime and they do the show at night but we did not watch it once cos it was so warm in there there was no air conditioning on i know it was october but the hotel was full it was half term and with everyone crammed in it was boiling xx ps its thomas cook only from next year not thomsons
It is no longer part of Iberostar and I can't find out any information on it.
Can anyone tell me if AI is included at the beach bar and what sort of temps we can expect in August?
Thanks
Pauline
The only information I can give you is that it will be extremely hot in August - temperatures can often be over 40 deg! There is actually not much to do in Skanes at any time of year outside the hotels, as that is really all there is in the area, but it is easy and cheap enough to get to Sousse or Monastir.
I reckon my daughter and I will be having a few rides out to some places for a good look around, we don't like just sticking to the hotel wherever we go.
I do agree with you. However nice an hotel is, you do need to get out and about and see something of the area when you are on holiday, especially in a new country.
The hotel is still owned by the same people (local to sousse i believe) they just didnt carry on leasing to iberostar as they didnt feel that it was any significant benefit to them anymore, hence switching to Thomas cook (I think)
Have been to this hotel a number of times and will be returning again in July and September, the rooms are very basic, but as you spend so little time in them the main factor is that they are clean!, which they are :-), AI is included at the beach bar and snacks / meals served from 12-6 along with drinks from 10am, to be honest we never use the dining room for lunchtime meals, too much bother getting changed from beachwear for me ( just lazy i guess )
There is an e-mail adress for the hotel but i dont have it to hand at the moment so to speak, but will pm you in the next week or so when i have it.
If I can help with any other questions you may have please let me know and i will try my best to help.
Hope this helps :-)
Thanks for the info easy-tiger. No doubt I will think of a few questions for you
This is the e-mail address for the Sahara Beach Hotel Skanes, sorry its later than i said.
Have just discovered that water slides will be finished at Sahara beach in late May or early June, not that i will use them but should be even more fun for the kids
Thanks for the email address easy tiger.
DOes anyone know if it si worth emailing to ask for certain rooms etc?
I will let you know how she gets on with the requests, when she gets around to it
It certainly wont do any harm sending an e-mail for any requests, you have nothing to lose and you never know as the staff always strive to help , so worth it for for the sake of a quick e-mail
