Many years ago (about 1990 or so) the original charter company to Goa, Inspirations, had a go at it with a direct flight from Edinburgh, well not direct, it stopped at Newcastle to pick up more passengers, before refueling in Amann in Jordan, where you had to stay on the plane whilst this went on ! For the Ediburgh passengers it turned out to be a 14 hour journey, not really the length you want to be stuck on a charter plane. We were on the inaugural flight, on the way back, all the music and TVs were broken, so it was a very very long 14 hours.
Five years ago it might have stood a chance, but with the big decline in charter business to Goa I'll be amazed if it ever comes off. The Edinburgh, Newcastle flights only lasted the one year before it was dropped, then the trek south for connectios began and continues to this day.

The figures for charter flights may be up but the increase is due to the likes of Russian arrivals, which grow year on year. There has certainly been a big decrease onUK charters compared with the likes of five years ago.

The Thomas Cook flight from Glasgow is not exactly direct. All they have one is to change the departure times of their Gatwick flight by 2 hours which now goes via Glasgow.I'll feel sorry for people who had booked this flight and now have an additional stop.

gramps , you are spot on . Baga and Candolim are full of Russians , which is no bad thing , The only thing that bothers me is that a lot of the Restaurants are now catering for the Russian Diet , and their food isnt to my liking.
I suppose the tour operator , is trying to prop up flagging demand in the UK , by trying to lure the Jocks in , with the Direct Flight option.

martin / kiltman -- What !! I thought that someone born in Scotland was a Scot , and that someone who Lived in Scotland , was a Jock , therefore I used that term , as I assumed that its not only Scots who fly out of Scotland , but many other Nationalities .
My Brother who is English , has lived in Scotland for 30yrs , is called affectionately by his mates in Scotland a "Jockney" and he wholeheartedly considers himself a Jock , He tells me that the reference to sweat , Is considered in a bad light , and can result in Injury to the party , using that term .
Anyway , if I have caused offence , Sorry , but it does make me wonder just how woosie our country has become .

Mahal, as a Scot, I have always found that term as an offensive and condescending remark used generally, but not exclusively, by English when talking about Scots in a derogatory manner.

Thanks for the apology Mahal :tup a pity you then spoiled it
but it does make me wonder just how woosie our country has become

So, which Gatwick TC flight is now going via Glasgow? Just so I don't end up on it. :que

martin , this is my last comment on this subject , as in my experience , that term , especially when used in the context of humour , is used to make out the English as the dafter of the two nations .

So back to the flight, does it go LGW - GLA - GOI??

Somebody posted on Tripadvisor that it's this one flight:
depart fri 01 apr2011 GLASGOW 0910 - GOA 2320

return sat 16 apr2011 GOA 0120 - GLASGOW 0800

From what I can gather it starts at Gatwick, picks up in Glasgow and then drops of in Glasgow before continuing to Gatwick.

Note the OUTBOUND date! :yikes

As jcbrum says, it's not great for those people who thought they'd booked a non-stop flight to Goa from Gatwick.
Thomas Cook seem to like to mess about with flights, last year they transferred all their Gatwick-Goa flights to Monarch.
Lots of very unhappy people.

So is it just one flight from Glasgow via London or will there be more flights in season 2011/2012.
I checked November 2011 and there was no choice to fly from Glasgow :think so I was just wondering.

According to the woman who posted the information on TA it's just the ONE flight at the end of this season (2010/2011).

From this, Thomas Cook are supposed to be able to gauge whether there is a demand for a flight from Scotland for next season.
I'm a bit sceptical as the flight started on sale as a Gatwick flight so some of the demand is already taken up by those people wanting to fly from Gatwick.
