Me and my brother are thinking of going to sydney (australia) at the end of this year n0v/dec and are wondering about whats the best way to book flights e.t.c i have looked at expedia e.t.c but the best prices seem to be if you traveling sooner rather than later.
Has anyone got any advice? is it better to hold back from booking flights until a bit nearer the time? i get the impression that long haul flight prices go up and down alot and all the time. also thinking of doing a stop over on the way to break up the journey abit!

Hi there,

We've been to Oz a few times and have always used http://www.airline-network.co.uk who have a good website and good deals. You're looking at about £600 - £650 at that time of year.

Hope this helps :D

Shouldn't be a problem, although I find that with the long haul flights, generaly the earlier you book the better. Prices will generaly go up the closer you get to departure date - when we've been before we've booked 9 months in advance and got very good prices.

Also remember that the closer to Christmas you leave the higher the prices. They go astronomical aroound Christmas time.

Hope this helps, enjoy the trip! :D

It did occur to me that there wasn't one.

Maybe it's because many of those who go to australia go visiting, or since there's so many vastly different areas or something??

I'm planning a trip to Perth in November, so if you're looking to post about that area I'll probably reply! Never been in Australia before so I don't have a clue about any of the other areas......and I guess Perth isn't the most popular!

Hi there,

we are hoping to go to a friends wedding in Perth on the 28th December 2005, not a holiday we had actually planned on having this year, but would like to money permitting.

I was therefore wondering if anyone can recommend a reasonable flight operator as there are son many "flight" websites on the Net and we are restricted on spending with it being "unplanned".

Look forward to hearing from anyone who can help.

Thanks
Tracy :D

Hi Tracy travel, i have not been to Perth, but have traveled to Brisbane 4 four times! i can tell you my experineces of booking flights. i have alsways ended up booking at a travel agents, as the ones on teletext and cheap flights advertised are almost impossible to get! However, i have alsways managed to get a reasonable deal through the agents! i have never paid more than £500.oo which is not bad for going to Brisbane! Also the flights i usualy get is with Singapore airlines, and i can recomend them! I think Perth may also be even cheaper! Good luck anyway, hope someone can give you some better advice :D

P.S just thought about it and i'm not sure if singapore airlines fly to perth!! sorry :(

Singapore Airlines do fly to Perth. You might want to have a couple of nights stopover in Singapore as the airline offer a very reasonable stopover program, all price levels of accomodation, free transport to and from airport, free travel on Singapore Airlines bus all over the city plus free or discounted entry to many attractions.

http://www.Austravel.co.uk or it may be .com

are chartering Britannia flights weekly to Perth from London from about October through to spring. Prices start at £499, which was the price for November when I called them. I think xmas is more expensive though. It's a 'direct' flight....although it stops and refuels at two places, can't rembember where but Bahrain springs to mind.

Singapore do fly there. The flights we're looking at for November are with Emirates, because they do a one stop from Glasgow to Perth, stopping at Dubai, which we would like to stop at. Prices just now are in the region of £650 for November.

We've found a place to stay now in Perth also...it's in a suburb called applecross. It's at

My aunt who lives in Perth went over and checked it out for us and has said it is ideal. In a residential area, great transport links, shops and restaurants, a pool etc. From about $70 aud per room per night also.

hi, we are planning a 3 - 4 week trip to australia for 2006!
Can't find any forums dedicated to australia, so hope that someone out there who's been to oz reads this!!

we are looking at travelling from sydney to melbourne by car and then a plane to Alice springs fopr a few days ( see ayers rock) then flight to Brisbane for car trip up to Cairns.

Anyone advise us of what to see and do or what to avouid would be appreciated.

Hi Footy

To do all this you will need the 4 weeks the trip around the coast will take 3days from Sydney to Melbourne . When in Melbourne you will want to drive the Great Ocean Road as far as Warrnambool and the go back to Melbourne the inland highway 2days for that.
In Alice Springs it is best to take bus tours to see places if you look up http://www.aatkings.com they will give you tours and prices there are others to but we have use them and found them ok .
From Brisbane to Cairns it is a 1700KLS drive so you will need will need about 7 to 10 days to drive and see things on the way
web sites on Australia

For the cheapest airfare for the day and time in Australia is
http://www.farehunter.com.au
Just add tax on Jetstar prices and some of there flights do land at Averlon air port it is half way in between Geelong and Melboune
As I live in Australia and have been to all these places you are going to so if you want more help just ask.
What time of the year are you planing this trip as it is very hot in our summer in the centre and in the north of Australia.

as with what the previous person has said, it will take a long time to see everything and drive to places.. if you are going in their summer be warned that if you were planning to climb uluru then they can close it due to the heat and also on windy days.. i did a sailing trip around the whitsundays which was great, though i was there in nov/dec time and the tropical storms played havoc on our trip, especially trying to sleep on the yacht, queensland can get pretty wet in certain times of the year so bear that in mind too.. i drove the other way around from cairns to brisbane. don't miss out on fraser island for some off road 4x4.. great camping too
any further questions that i can help you with just give us a shout, though i think to do all of that in 4 weeks, you'll be rushing yourself and missing things. i would say at least 6 weeks min to do that treck
