I for one would be made up with this. The taxis are taking the **** and in the end I get fed up with arguing with them. We were refused a couple of times last year when offering 50rps to travel from Bending Bamboo to by Kingfisher Villa. I know it's not much by UK prices but when you know it should cost about 10rps and they all expect at least 100rps it's slightly annoying. I would walk everywhere but wife has chronic asthma so after a long day we just have to bite the bullet.

We use the bus wherever possible - a few rupees gets you around and apart from rush-hours, it's much more fun! I like telling the taxi drivers that come over to us, shouting "Taxi" - "No thanks, we're waiting for the bus."

We hire a scooter now every year.

I just got so sick of them ripping me off.

When they shout Taxi at me I just wave the key at them and smile.

I would be willing to bet my house this will never happen.

I am still chuckling every time I think of it.

We're bus users too now, much more fun than fighting with taxi wallahs. I'm afraid I've seen too many accidents and walking wounded to go within a mile of scooters, however,they're great fun and a great bargain, until the accident. When you're young you think it'll never happen to you, but with advancing years you realise, sometimes it does !
As far as the meters,they've had them for years but in twenty odd years in Goa, I've never seen or heard of them actually been switched on, and if this ever came off, they would never use them anyway
