Man dies after night in 'camping pod' at Cumbrian caravan park
A man has died and his wife is seriously ill after reportedly being poisoned by carbon monoxide fumes on a camping holiday in the Lake District.
The couple, Chris and Jane Bainbridge, in the mid-40s, were staying in a wooden 'camping pod' at the Quiet Site Caravan Park in Ullswater, Cumbria.
According to the Daily Mirror, they were overcome by fumes as they slept after bringing their barbecue inside the wooden pod.
The alarm was raised by neighbours when the couple failed to return to their home in Darlington, County Durham.
Police launched a search and the couple were discovered slumped inside the pod on Monday.
Paramedics were called but it was too late to save Mr Bainbridge. Mrs Bainbridge remains in hospital where she is in a serious condition.
