Hi
I am a brand new member desperate for some help if anyone can kindly help me please.
I have a phobia of other passegers vomiting on a plane which has stopped me flying for many years, it is my dream to go abroad so I am desperatley searching for an aircraft flying from the Uk pref East Midlands or Birmingham with a 2 - 2 seating plan that I can prebook.
It is my partner and I who long to go to either Murcia, Greece or Cyprus and I know I could forfill my dream and fly is I could find an aircraft with a 2-2 so we didn't have to sit in a 3-3 plan with a stranger next to us just incase they got ill.
I am such a friendly person & love people but unfortunatley this is a major problem.
Please please can anybody help me ?
Love & hugs
Jo
Welcome onboard
In 34 years of flying, I can't say I've ever sat next to a passenger that has vomited. Having said that, a flight in to Manchester coming in from Antigua 3 years age was rather fun with very strong crosswinds and turbulance so a few sick bags were full upon disembarking! I really wouldn't worry about that issue as there is very little chance of it happening and it would be a shame if it prevented you from going on holiday.

That is available, but it depends on your budget, destination and routing. Business class on some carriers is 2-2 and of course private jet charter but then you're looking at silly money. There are very few charter carriers that operate flights with 2-2 seating, especially to the destinations you mention and those departure airports. Very few aircraft types use 2-2 seating, only smaller aircraft that are used on regional services use it really. Aircraft used to holiday destinations are generally mid to large jets that use 3-3 although some exit rows have 2-2 but these have to be prebooked at extra cost and are often booked up early. Odd flights use larger aircraft such as the Boeing 767-300/ER that are configured 2-4-2, but they don't operated from EMA or BHX. Would that be acceptable if you could get a pair of seats? You'd have to look at travelling from Manchester or Gatwick though.

Many thanks for your very prompt response, I so appreciate it.
If only we could afford a private jet !
I know it doesn't happen very often and if only I could find a 2-2 seating plan I would definetley go for it !
I think BMI do a 2-2 from east midlands but a, not 100% sure, I tried to book but the 2-2 were not available so don't know if thats due to the seats not being available at all for reservation.
I have spent hours upon hours on the internet searching but no joy hence I thought I would join this group
Its a good job I wan't on that Antigua flight !!!!

The only 2-2 aircraft Bmi operate are the Airbus A320 in business class and the exit row on some aircraft. They're actually 3-3 but with the centre seat blocked giving 2-2. The Embraer 145's are 1-2. Other than that, the shourt haul fleet are all 3-3. They don't fly to holiday destinations though unless you want to go to Aberdeen for example. The reason you can't find a carrier offering 2-2 seating to a holiday destination is because there aren't any really fom EMA or BHX, it's all 3-3 on Airbus A320 and Boeing 737-800 or 757-200. You can pre-book extra legroom seating on some of these that are 2-2, but you'd have to book well in advance as there's only 1 row out of 41 for example on the 757-200 that's like that. You're really going to struggle to get 2-2 seating unless you can travel from Manchester or Gatwick and go somewhere that is operated by a Boeing 767-300/ER for example that are configured 2-4-2. Our What Aircraft? guide (link below) will give you lots of information on the aircraft types used by the main holiday carriers and their aircraft configurations.

We would fly from any UK airport, we live in Northamptonshire but would travel just to get away as my Dad has a villa in La Turcia.
I just don't know what to do anymore apart from get more people to come with us and pre book seats so we know we are all sat together but we really just wanted to go the 2 of us....I feel so sorry for my partner as I am depriving him.
Somebody I knew flew to spain in a 2-2 configuration but I can't remember which flight provider she used.

It could have been with someone like Spanair on one of their MD80's that were configured 2-3 or maybe an airline operating a CRJ that are 2-2, but you'll not get them from EMA or BHX anymore. Flybe operate the Dash-8-Q400 from EMA plus the Embraer 170/190 from BHX that are 2-2 to selected destinations, but they're more business routes rather than liesure. The other aircraft with 2-2 are the ATR42/72 operated by Aer Arann, but only to Ireland. The rest and particularly where you're looking at going to are 3-3 I'm afraid unless you can get in early and grab the extra legroom row, at extra cost with the carriers where seats are 2-2.

I feel sure that my friend went with first choice and definetley sat in a set of 2
I hate this awful phobia even more than ever when it comes to holidays !
We flew club class with BA last year and I ended up sitting in the galley with the cabin crew but it cost a fortune.
I am so fed up with it now !
Unfortunately they are leg room seats so will cost you extra.
The Thomson planes we use only have the 2 seats on one side seat D&E, These are also leg room seats but on a short flight to Spain may not cost that much.
Its worth finding out if you could have these seats as they have lots of room in front of them as its where the door to the entrance of the plane is situated.
Where is your favoured destination? If you can narrow down where you actually want to go to rather than just Greece or Spain, ie which island / resort, we can look in to specific flights for you and therefore the seating available. If you're looking at flying this summer, I would be surprised if exit rows aren't already booked up as they generally go early.
Darren
I am deeply touched and feel that your kind people are helping me as I have contacted many airline companies but they just won't help me!
Thankyou thankyou thankyou for all of your replies and assistance.
My Dads villa is in La Tercia so we prefer to go there as it would be free accomodation, I believe you can fly into Murcia or Alicante. I am more happy to pay for extra leg room seats no problem at all and we can go anytime between beginning of July and the end of August as I like the weather hot! We are iseally looking to go for around 10-11 nights and can fly from East Midlands, Birmingham, Luton, Stanstead, heathrow etc. I prefer to fly early morning ie 06:00 would be fab.
Thanks again,
JO
Have you tried looking at a different way? How about tackling the phobia? I see you have flown so its not a case of just giving it a go. Hypnosis might work. Google treating phobias and see if there if there is anything there that is useful. A phobia can be so frustrating- good luck
Your options from EMA include:
Bmi Baby (EMA-ALC or EMA-MJV)
Ryanair (EMA-ALC - EMA-MJV)
Jet2 (EMA-ALC or EMA-MJV)
Thomson Airways (EMA-ALC)
Your options from BHX include:
Bmi Baby (BHX-MJV)
Thomas Cook (BHX-ALC)
Monarch (BHX-ALC)
Thomson Airways (EMA-ALC)
Ryanair (BHX-MJV)
So you have plenty of options from these two airports. With all these, you'll have to try and book the extra legroom seating in pairs otherwise it's all 3-3. That's where your stumbling block may be as I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't been already, especially as you're wanting to travel in peak season. I haven't looked at other airports as it's much of a muchness really.
I would agree with Fiona, rather than trying to find a suitable airline, which you're going to struggle with if you can't get the exit row seats, maybe the alternatives are worth a try?
Darren
Thanks for your messages.
I started hypno analysis and it did get a little better but I appreciate I need to go back as I know it would be far far easier to be free of the phobia I've lived with for 25 years.
In the meantime I just hope I can sort a flight out to give myself & my partner a very much needed break.
Best regards
Jo xxxx
Greece and Cyprus are about 4 hours so if you are anxious at least the shorter flight will be better for you.
Yes we are planning on hopefull going to Spain at that is where my Dads villa is.
Just to update you....we have now booked to go to Murcia on 13th July for 2 weeks and are going with my Dad & step-mum
We are flying with Ryan Air and have booked the 3 seats at the front on their own with my partner sitting in the opposite row whixh is just behin.
Thankyou to you all for your support & assistance.
Love & hugs
Jo
