Bear in mind though that if you are occupying a seat in the first row of a block of seats, you will have nowhere to stow a handbag - the space under your seat is for the use of the person sitting behind you - and the cabin crew will insist on you putting it in one of the overhead lockers for take off and landing at the very least. The same often applies to exit row seats as well. So best to check with your airline whether they will let you keep a handbag at all times with you if you are occupying one of these seats.

We go away 4-5 times a year but this in the first time for 10 years that we have flown with Easyjet.
The reason I wanted to have my bag at hand with my medications in is they are due to be taken around 9am which will be during the flight.

I'm flying with Ryanair on Fri and have the aisle seat in the first row both outbound and return I wonder if I can sneak my leather, fairly flat, handbag behind me on take off and landing
This one is similar (mines a different pattern) except I bought mine off Ebay:- http://www.eastpak.com/uk-en/shoulderbags/shoppers-tote-bags/flay-flower-bed.html
I am now packed and relieved that our case only weighs 18kg and my holdall which is an inch or 2 smaller than Easyjets dimensions has enough room for my handbag.
I am sure there will be someone with a bag twice the size of mine but I am a worrier regarding keeping to the regulation size as I would hate to be made to pay to put it in the hold.
I have a variety of flight bags/holdalls and the one I am using for this holiday is a Constellation and quite strong.
I bought a lovely black and white flowery bag from TK Maxx last year to double up as a beach bag for the bargain price of a fiver and when I got home I looked the make up on the internet and the RRP was £39.99!
It was also listed as a babies changing bag. Thats a lovely bag Glynis and I wish I dared use my lovely Cath Kidston flight bag that was bought as a gift but It would be just my luck for someone to shove their bag in next to it in the overhead locker and damage it.
I hope you bought the matching bumbag Glynis!
