Your hotel looks lovely. If you haven't already seen it here is their website:-

I've been to Lanzarote but we only popped into Playa Blanca so I'm afraid I can't help you much with the resort.

I'm sure, however you'll have a lovely time :sun2

I had a walk round the hotel when I was last in Lanzarote and it is lovely. I am looking into staying there for a special holiday this autumn. It's a fair walk to any beaches, there isn't one near the hotel but the lovely pool area makes up for it. There is a pretty marina just a few yards away with shops and restaurants and the main part of Playa Blanca is about a half hour walk away. I enjoyed my stay in Playa Blanca and really liked Lanzarote and although I can't personally recommend the Volcan it certainly appeared to live up to it's 5* rating.

I think a lot of the hotel pools in Lanzarote aren't heated, the one I stayed in wasn't.

Hi,

Travelling as a 40 something couple later this month and curious if anyone has stayed at the Hotel Volcan or knows anything about it... can't seem to find anything here.

I wonder what the beach is like near the hotel - any good for lounging on the sand?
Also, it seems that maybe the pool is not heated at the Hotel...anyone know about this?

Most people talk about going to the other islands, not Lanzarote, so I'm wondering if there is a reason why...is there something we should know? :think

Thanks in advance!

The nearest beach is the Dorada beach which is about 10 mins walk. It has sunbeds, parasols, some watersports, beach bars etc and is IMO, the best beach with facilities in Playa Blanca. You're right at the heart of Marina Rubicon. There's some very nice shops, and good restaurants, although they are a bit more pricey than in the town. It's about 20 mins into the centre of PB. Obviously time depends on walking speed, but it takes us 15 mins from the middle of PB to the start of the Marina.
I'm not sure whether any of the pools in the main hotel are heated or not. You don't get a lot of heated pools in the hotels, and even when they are they're not very warm. Depending on what time of year you travel the sea may be warmer.

I love Playa Blanca, and have been going for 20+ years :) I remember the Volcan first opening, when it belonged to Melia and have been around it a few times, but not for a while. I don't stay in hotels very often, but the Club section of the Volcan would be about the only one I would consider in PB.

@Glynis: Thanks for the welcome, this is a great site, wish I had found it sooner for some other trips, but hey ho, better now than never.

@Fiona: Thanks so much! Are there any seafood restaurants not to be missed? We only have 4 nights so I'm thinking we will just stay on the south side of the island. I've been told to go to the Marina, perhaps Puerto Calero, Quemada beach seems to have some nice seafood too? Any info you have would be so very appreciated!

@Judith: Thanks for your reply. From what I have investigated so far (& it looks like according to Sunaddict as well) The Hotel Volcan is probably not as good as it looks online, at least with regard to some of the rooms anyway… so I'm taking other traveller's advice and writing to them in advance to make sure we get a good room! Generally I'm pretty easy to please and especially if I know in advance not to have unrealistic expectations. We'll see!! Look out for my review when I'm back in April and good luck with your plans!

@Sunaddict: Thanks very much for your reply. We looked into the club section and were definitely tempted, but considering we are going at the end of this month - which I gather is low season - we're going to try our luck with requesting a better room without club amenities, we'll see how it goes! Thanks so much for the beach info too.

~~~ Thanks everyone and happy travels :)
We had an excellent fish meal (can't remember which fish it was) at La Lapa in El Golfo. It's about a 20mins drive from Playa Blanca, if you don't have transportation you could take a taxi. There are other good restaurants that specialise in fish in El Golfo.
March is carnival month on Lanzarote. If you're there over the 28/30th it's the Playa Blanca carnival. The parade is on the 29th and starts at 6pm.
The reason I would only stay in the Club section has nothing to do with the rooms. It's purely because it's adult only.
