I note you have done sharm, you will need somewhere with an airport for hubby to go to Cairo (I am assuming you don't want to stay in Cairo) so are you wanting to go back to Sharm or would you prefer perhaps Luxor or maybe Hurghada?
Edit I should also mention you could stay in El Gouna, I presume hubby would want to fly to Cairo and not take a bus excursion which can be 10 hrs each way.

thanks for your reply cairo would be fine the less he has to travel the better we loved sharm but don't really want to go there or hurghada im finding it hard to find any tour operators as well x
A guy on a forum I frequent here in Cyprus took a short break to Cairo in July and stayed at the Mena House Hotel right by the foot of the Pyramids. I'm hoping you can see the photos he posted via these links:

I reckon you couldn't go far wrong with booking yourselves in there and you could most likely arrange transport to get you to the pyramids to at least take photos and you could possibly manage part of the Solar Boat museum (definitely should be seen) which is right beside the Great Pyramid.
Perhaps the hotel could arrange a minibus for you so you can at least see some of the sights? Alternatively, I've used and can highly recommend Memphis Tours (Cairo based) as a local agent. They will arrange a "meet and greet" at the airport if you're not planning to book a city break package. http://www.memphistours.com/Egypt/
They have a "live chat" (person to person message service) which is available at the bottom right of the website - I've used it on a number of occasions so you can ask questions etc plus they will email the whole chat to you afterwards by way of confirmation of what you were informed.

You will probably find it hard to find one of the mainstream package tour companies that currently do holidays to Cairo with the on going unrest and continuing FCO cautions in place.
You might have to use an independent company and get them to make a dynamic package or go DIY.

We've always done DIY as there isn't much option to do anything else from Cyprus. There are still flights operating into Cairo from UK and Kevin (who posted the photos) went in the early part of July (this year) for about 4 days.
I don't think he did the Cairo Museum though and probably it is an idea to avoid central Cairo of an evening (particularly from mid afternoon on Tuesdays as well as Fridays).
Saying that, I'm not hearing too much news coming out of Cairo at the moment and sometimes I think it's better to make these sort of trips on the fly so to speak, rather than trying to plan too far ahead.

thank you so much for your replies really appreciate it sounds really stressful though think I might give it a miss x
If you are happy to go to somewhere such as Hurghada, Luxor or even Sharm you can get package holidays to those destinations and hubby can easily do an excursion to see the Pyramids, this involves flying up and back in a day and he would get to see the Pyramids, the Solar Boat Museum at the side of the Pyramids and the Sphinx he also gets to visit the Cairo Museum.
This can be done DIY by booking all the separate parts yourself or personally I would recommend using either the package company or one of the local excursion companies to book it. It is a full day however it is well organised with pick up and drop off at your hotel and tour guide who explains everything.

no not made a decision yet its looking highly unlikely though looking further afield thank you for all your help guys xx
Get him to take you to Las Vegas and you could stay in the Luxor hotel which is a big glass pyramid
very fancy and I am sure you would love it. You could be pampered and stay by the pool with waiter service while he goes and visits the all the various attractions on the strip
Any ideas where you fancy going?
