Hi re my previous message - yes we are going to the one in Hammamet. Have you got some views for me?
very mixed. I would be grateful to know if anyone has had a recent experience of the resort.
Also, does anyone have any tips of things that we may need to take with us?
[/b]W're going to the hotel with our 2 young children (3 & 6) at the beginning of April 2005. The reviews on the site are Also, does anyone have any tips of things that we may need to take with us?
This is our first hoilday and after reading the feedback I am feeling unsure and scared...................... help............................one of my kids is a fussy eater.......so i need help and reasurrance...
thus being our 1st holiday. if you find out etc will you let me know..ta
Based on the reviews published on this site, I would sum the hotel up as:
1. Food options can be limited but depends on personal likes/dislikes.
2. Depends on whether you've got a standard or 'superior' room as to quality.
3. Hotel possibly a little 'tired' & in need of some redecoration.
4. A good attitude from the staff, and most importantly this is a family orientated facility.
IMO, as long as the weather is great & the sea warm (or pools) you're going to get the same enjoyment as anyone else visiting the country. After all, the hotel is just a place to eat & sleep.
My wife & I went to Egypt before the children were born so I am already aware of the cultural difference as well as 1st world/3rd world differences in standards. If you can open your mind to the natural standards of the country i.e. wealth, religion etc I think it should be a very good country & hotel to visit. If you've not been outside the EU before, it may take a little while to adjust.
(My family's biggest challenge will be for our youngest who's had a colostomy since birth - how will he/his 'appliance' cope with the environment? Beyond that, everything else is of no consequence)
For anyone going to Les Orangers before I do (22/05/05) I really would appreciate reading your review on this site.
Jim
I did a little research at the time of booking our holiday (which is when I found this site) and am more than confident that I've made a very sound choice of both country and location & the hotel will be of a good standard - 4*'s must count for something afterall!
I was just trying to make a polite, sensible, non-agressive suggestion to the other contributors not to panic at the reviews they've read (bad news or disappointing experiences are more likely to get broadcast than good ones), but wait 'til they get to the hotel and can form their own opinion.
I've visited the website of the hotel chain and the pictures /information looks very upbuilding. I sincerely hope AVE, Karenppp and Pennys families both enjoy their holidays, I certainly intend to, esp. as the hotel is going AI (one of the reasons for choosing this location).
Regards
Jim
I ahve since emailed the hotel and had a lovely reply of some nice lady...
who has set my mind at rest.....cheers
we stayed at this hotel in 1999 it was spotless the food was great direct acess to a beautiful beach (private) the hotel is in two parts les oranges beach at the beach end and les oranges at the road end.there is no trafic passing the hotel as it is at the end of a large cauldesac (spelling). there are no little bars as such in the area but, there are about 5 hotels in the same road we tended to use the Furaki hotel next door as the bar stayed open later and it was a bit more livelier .we also liked to pop in the les hammimet hotel the odd day just for a little change or scenery. there are a few small shops in the area ,i had a lovely leather coat made in one of them.i cant comment on the kids club as we were there as a couple. the les oranges has a lovely indoor pool if the weather becomes a bit iffy.hope this helps.
I THINK ITS JUST BECAUSE ITS OUR 1ST FAMILY HOL ABROAD AND IAM PANICING ANYWAY, GOD GOT 9 MONTHS OF THIS,,,,,,NOT GOING TILL NOV.....AHAHAHAH.CHEERS,
he ground floor, so doors open on to the gardens. (handy for kids) there are also some small bungalos in front of the l/o/beach in the gardens.with direct axcess to the beach .never looked inside them but saw people sunbathing/or sitting outside them.
I'm travelling to les Orangers on 6th March with my family (including my 2 year old son). I must agree that although the Thompson brochure / website as well as the Tunisia- Orangers website market the resort well as an attractive choice of holiday destination, I too started to worry when I couldn't find many positive reviews. I'll let you know what it is like on my return!!
Does anyone happen to know whether it has recently changed to an all-inclusive resort? Hopefully the poor standard of the food (in the opinions of people posting on this site) may have been reviewed in light of this. Also has anyone travelled to this Hotel through Thompsons and found their room in the 'Les Orangers' part of the Hotel rather than the 'Beach Resort' part and would this matter much in terms of standard?
One more quick question - is the milk over there different enough in taste to put a child off drinking it (i.e. would you advise me to take UHT instead?)
Cheers
Julie
Just come back and posted my review - see hotel reviews section.
just so I know not what to take..cheers
I'd like to know more about the facilities etc. The hotel has some good reviews, but they are all about the staff, cleanliness and food as usual. Having read the reviews, I'm really looking forward to staying in this hotel, but would appreciate more practical tips, such as kettle/hairdryer etc. Any local info would be a help. Many Thanks
Mark
I have stayed at the the Orangers and it is lovely. the rooms are bright and clean and comfortable. The gardens are imaculate.
there are shows put on for the guests every night... and there are excursions that you can go on that are not too expensive.
The Hotel fourati is the next hotel along the beach and it is nice to just walk there and have a coffee or something and then go back later walking through the gardens and then back to the Oranges along the road..... ther are shops in walking distance and to get to the Madina in Hammamet will cost you less than two pound english money for a return trip (before 9 pm... after that the tarrif changes)
I am sure you will love it. But if you want frills you will have to take your own.....
take care and have a lovely time..
Thanks for that Blondescorpion. All info is a help, especially for those of us who are 1st timers to Tunisia.
me to thanks for the advice etc I need to go and but myself a travel hairdryer now!!!!!! anymore info much appriciated.karen
I have recently come back from les orangers on the 8th May , as previous poster said but just to confirm for you, no there is nothing in your rooms. If you do want to know anything else please just ask. Are you taking children?
Just to add though there is a well equipped laundry room situated in the superior block it's got two ironing boards and irons and three washing machines and two tumble dryers that blow cold air??
