You can go scuba diving in goa and see reef and and nurse sharks so they must be around. However never seen any near the beaches and certainly never been warned or heard that anyone has been hurt by them.
As shaz said you are more at risk by the currents and waves etc.
Thank you very much for your honest replies, I think I shall be very careful..if I paddle in the sea or better still, I will wear my water shoes. Generally, all I do is walk along the waters edge and paddle up to my knees, so I'm sure I will be ok, but I will have eyes searching the sea from every angle.

Chill out, you have nothing to worry about at all. Please dont get worried about it as there is nothing to worry about, been in the sea many times and the only thing i have felt on the soles of my feet is sand. (Not like the med)
Just becareful if you go swimming because of the currents, but other than that dont worry at all.
Of course if you see the local great white shark then swim like mad but dont make to much noise only j/k
no worries, I'll beat the world record in swimming
I'm sure when I'm there I won't think about anything other than relaxing and enjoying myself.

We are going back in 9 days time and are really looking forward to swimming in the sea. Much better than swimming in the hotel pool.
Also, their teeth are set way back in their head, so it has to be a really big bite to do any damage.
Hope this helps to put your mind at rest.
I'm sure that once I'm there I won't even think about what lurks in the sea and I will just relax and enjoy every minute of the holiday....I can't wait!!!

There are a few time-share sharks developing throughout Goa riding motorbikes!!!
We have been back to Goa since and we always tell other holiday makers to be aware of them and don't get fooled, we are going back next week and no doubt we will be warning alot more people.
went into this shark tale in depth and found that hammerheads, bull sharks and tiger sharks frequent these waters but I have not found nothing about any attacks arround Goa.
Last year whilst in the sea i felt something wrap itself around my neck. after a few mins of hysteria i realised it was the strap of my cossie, I think i was the only one not laughing.
I have been stung by a jelly fish but apparantly it's unusual to see any, it was thought to have been bought in on the fishermens nets.
It was a piece of seaweed.....
But jellyfish, now they give me the heebie-jeebies!! Six years ago there were loads - apparently they like the cold water, so I guess there must have been some strange cold currents around that year. We went to Coco Beach and must have seen about a hundred of them on the shore, and loads more bobbing about in the shallows - so we left and found went to Madrem instead...we didn't get stung at all, but it was on my mind when we went back this year. Didn't see a single one this time...
Sorry lin b,
After the report on sea snakes, it looks like a lot of people are going to be very careful when in the sea from now on, or just paddling like me. Snakes don't really bother me to the extent, but the word poisonous frightens me

Hi caninecrazy it was about 6 years ago i got stung by the jelly fish, It was bright pink and we saw each other at the same time, only the jellyfish was able to move quicker than me. I am so worried about the snakes, but have always been in and out of the water all day, and know i will be in paranoid mode and looking for them all the time.

Be sure to go to Palolem beach. It's really good for swimming, as it's a bay, and it has some excellent waves for diving into. Very exhilirating!!
It's always struck me how, compared to the number of people on the beaches, there's so few in the sea. Jaws has a lot to answer for....
I certainly agree that Jaws has a lot to do with the amount of people swimming in the sea, I don't think I have been swimming in deep waters since seeing jaws....Gosh was it back in the late 70's?....It frightened the life out of me, so I don't think I will be going past my knees in Goa...not only for my fear of sharks, but also the snakes. I will try and put everything out of my mind and just enjoy myself.

We stayed in candolim in nov and we used to take the occasional stroll along the beach from candolin to baga where we do most off our sun lounging, [because the sea,s to rough at candolim] anyway i,m going of the subject here, on our stroll,s we found that there were load,s of sea snakes either been washed up on the beach ,or the fishermen had disregarded them from their catch, the goan,s say they are poisonous, deadly But speaking to other people they say they are ok. Anyone know whats what with these ugly specimens ive been 4 times to goa now and its the first time i,ve come across these.
Are they the same as the sea cucumber thingies?? Seen them at Palolem...really ugly!
OK, :omg, Freaking me out now quite a bit!! Is it okay to swim in the sea with these things!! Are they going to be slithering all around me!! I'm not too worried about standing on them as I'm afraid of sea urchins and tend to not put my feet down if I can help it, but the thought of bumping into one when I'm floating among the waves is not something I fancy!
