hi, we stayed at the whispering palms in january this year (2005).
it looked like it has been re-painted and was very clean with very friendly staff.
it was just like you see in the brochures. maids clean the rooms every day (unless you tell them not to) the food is good, a bit dearer than outside but then we only eat in the hotel twice, the rest of the timne we walked around and eat somewher different every night! it's so cheap.

i'm sure you will enjoy it very much, i think it's a lot better than most of the other hotels in candolim.

what did the meals cost in the hotel

Not exactly sure on costs of individual costs as we had the meals and drinks put on a "tab" and paid at the end of our stay. but looking at the menus, the prices are roughly 100 - 200 rupees more expensive but when you work it out it's only about £3 maximum, nothing to cry about!

But we didn't want to stay at the hotel all the time. we went on plenty of trips, walks and relaxing on the beach or hotel pool.

as I mentioned earlier, we wanted to try out different places. I would recommend Victors for an evening meal. You can see his shack from the hotel, its on the road to the beach just past all the stalls, which they call run the gauntlet! you'll see why.

You'll have a fantastic time.

we NEVER eat from buffets. They are always left open to flies etc, no matter how clean the hotel and kitchen.
i have no experience of your hotel but doubt that it will be different from any other.
Presumably they will have an "a la carte" option, this would help you.

My boyfriend & I stayed here in March 2005 & we found the hotel pleasant & in a handy spot. The hotel staff were always polite & friendly & willing to help. However, on arrival my boyfriend & I were placed in a twin room while two young boys under the age of ten were placed in a double room overlooking the pool..................we still can't understand that! We were told we could be moved after a week but we were only there for a week so no good to us. The buffet breakfast was ok but the same everyday! We would end up strolling down to the beach (Ganesh's Shack) & eating there. The hotel is in an excellent position, 1 minute walk to nearest bar & restaurant & 5 minute walk (slowly!) from the beach. The pool for this hotel is not big enough which didn't really bother us as we preferred the beach anyway but people would lay towels out as early as they possibly could. All in all I would say the hotel is an excellent position & the staff are friendly & it is clean but if I were to go again I wouldn't go B&B there as it's so cheap to eat out!

We booked Whispering Palms with Cosmos for 28 nights over Christmas & New Year on B&B basis. We have just been informed the hotel is now taking only All Inclusive bookings. Cosmos have moved us to The Phoenix Park which we are not unhappy about. Anybody with a booking at Whispering Palms might like to contact their operater if they think they might be moved to make sure they get a hotel of their choosing.

I don't suppose you want a refund with your holiday being for 28 nights but did Cosmos offer you one as they should have done?

The Phoenix Park is a lovely hotel. I would choose that over Whispering palms.
Don't let the change ruin your holiday...it's a bonus.
Have a fab time

Cosmos did offer a refund but was more interested in just getting out to Goa.
Thanks PTMCH re comments about Phoenix Park. Looking on the hotel forum and commemnts from people we have meet out there we are not too upset.

Phoenix Park is a really nice hotel. Try and have a word with Vegasone (off HT), she's stayed there a few times and seems to love the place so hopefully that'll put your mind at rest. I'd always thought that Whispering Palms was only available as an A/I package and didn't realise they 'were' offering just the b&b option, so you learn something new everyday.
I agree with ptmch, don't let the change spoil ruin your holiday, I think you'll have a fab time :)

Have to say a couple of friends stopped at Whispering Palms just recently and I had thought it was a good hotel, unfortunately they had nothing but problems there, in the end the room got double booked and they were asked to move to another hotel - The sonesta Inn, and I think they were so glad they did! - It's a nice place! Rooms better, cleaner, better staff etc... I don't know if this was a one off case, but just thought you should hear about their experience....
