We went to the Exhibition today"¦and here is my report.
Firstly getting there - we had never been to Brighton before, so made use of the Park & Ride facility, well signposted from the A27/A23 at Withdean Sports Ground. We even managed to park in the shade! Buses leave every 12 minutes and cost £2.60 per person return. The bus dropped us off near the pier, and we thought it was well worth the fare to save the hassle of navigating a strange town and finding a car park.
The exhibition is housed in a dome-like building at the end of the pier. It costs £6.00 for adults, family ticket £17.00. We were lucky when we went, it wasn't too busy, but it was VERY hot
. It is quite dark and noisy inside, so OK for wheelchairs, but not if you can't see very well. There are lots of models from the new series, (I don't want to give it all away) but pride of place must go to the new-style dalek, which is set in an excellent display, and if you press a button, it will flash its lights and exterminate you! (we heard a little girl scream when she saw it move!
)You are allowed to take photos inside as well. There are also lots of wall panels with extra in-depth information about some of the characters in the series, for die-hard fans.
Then there is the inevitable shop, with DVDs, books, toys and pens etc.
It takes less than an hour to go round the display (maybe it's longer if it's busy?), so although it's great for Doctor Who fans, you might feel it is a bit expensive otherwise
.
While we were on the pier, we had an excellent fish and chip lunch at the Palm Court restaurant. There are lots of other typical seaside shops there and of course a funfair. We went for a stroll along the prom and had an ice cream. It was an excellent day out!
