Thanks Pippy :)

We hope to go soon with our son, and will report back ...

...if we haven't been exterminated

We went to the Exhibition today"¦and here is my report.

Firstly getting there - we had never been to Brighton before, so made use of the Park & Ride facility, well signposted from the A27/A23 at Withdean Sports Ground. We even managed to park in the shade! Buses leave every 12 minutes and cost £2.60 per person return. The bus dropped us off near the pier, and we thought it was well worth the fare to save the hassle of navigating a strange town and finding a car park.

The exhibition is housed in a dome-like building at the end of the pier. It costs £6.00 for adults, family ticket £17.00. We were lucky when we went, it wasn't too busy, but it was VERY hot  . It is quite dark and noisy inside, so OK for wheelchairs, but not if you can't see very well. There are lots of models from the new series, (I don't want to give it all away) but pride of place must go to the new-style dalek, which is set in an excellent display, and if you press a button, it will flash its lights and exterminate you! (we heard a little girl scream when she saw it move! )You are allowed to take photos inside as well. There are also lots of wall panels with extra in-depth information about some of the characters in the series, for die-hard fans.

Then there is the inevitable shop, with DVDs, books, toys and pens etc.

It takes less than an hour to go round the display (maybe it's longer if it's busy?), so although it's great for Doctor Who fans, you might feel it is a bit expensive otherwise  .

While we were on the pier, we had an excellent fish and chip lunch at the Palm Court restaurant. There are lots of other typical seaside shops there and of course a funfair. We went for a stroll along the prom and had an ice cream. It was an excellent day out! :sun

Hi :D

So glad you enjoyed your day in Brighton, it's not a bad town, sorry, city!

I remember seeing the DW exhibiton at Longleat years ago, scared the living daylights out of me!

Isn't there a Dr Who exhibition in Blackpool too. Is it the same as Brighton?

Has anybody been? Is it worth the money? Youngest is a great Dr Who fan but we don't want to go all that way if it's no good.

i am a great dr who fan but i thought it a bit too expensive for what you see. yes theres lots of memorabilia for all who fans but it tends to be the old stuff up to about sylvester mccoy, no mention of paul mcgann and only briefly about chris eccleston. good display showing slitheen etc but not that much to do with new series and again nothing to do with david tennant. in all a little bit dated and not worth the money. i thought louis tussauds next door was better value as it is now huge twice the size of before with great sections based on films and music as well as coronation street and a large casino filled with a celebs.nothing to do with dr who but better value for money on a wet day :D

Thanks for that Lockwood. Food for thought.

That's interesting, lockwood.

We went to the Brighton exhibition last year, (my son is a big DW fan) and that has got lots of the new stuff...or at least, last year's series.......
here's a link to the topic on here

...a true DW fan will still enjoy the old stuff....but it does look rubbish due to the low budget they had in those days (we used to go to the Longleat one before it burnt down), but of course new fans will only know the new series.

I did think the Blackpool exhibition website didn't look too good re new stuff :(

Thanks Acorncup

I've merged the two topics

Thanks to everyone for their input and for Pippy for finding the old topic. Youngest would be more interested if there were more exhibits for the latest series as she wouldn't remember the earlier ones....unlike me who remembers William Hartnell

Theres a bit of the stuf from longleat including the one and only origional k9 model used in dw but unfortunately its just a melted heap due to the disastrous fire at longleat which wiped out most of the stock.hope you enjoy it if you go anyway :D

re the melted K9 model lockwood32 has just mentioned.......I thought it sounded like rather a useless item to have on display until my son explained that the fire at the Longleat exhibition STARTED in the K9 model....so perhaps its melted remains are of more significance than they sound
