Yes Boozyboo I do live in Egypt. Hurghada to be specific. Any particular reason for asking?
Now re the wind, it is not like winds in the U.K. For one thing it is not a cold wind, yes it can get quite gusty which blows the dust around, but not to the unbearable level.
Kick back and enjoy El Gouna. It is beautiful.
i would agree el gouna is a lovely place and you really do feel like you are in your own little town while you are there, Enjoy! don't forget the tok tok they are great!!
Thanks eveyone, I am definately sold on `El Gouna` just need to sort out which hotel.
What is tok tok - have I missed something here?
A tok tok is similar to a covered motorised tricycle (from india I believe), the driver sits in front and their is a bench behind which will seat 2 (possibly three) and they race them like the taxi's in sharm, manic but great fun !!!
Ahh, dont thihnk I saw any in Luxor last year, they just used poor horses.
really do need to try a tok tok. the driver even let me drive back to the hotel one night!!! It was mad!!
Please has anyone been to El Gouna in August? is it very, very hot like Sharm or does it still have a little breeze? We are now considering
2 weeks in August, rather than 1 week in May.
El Gouna has a predominently north wind year round. should feel cooler than Sharm in August for this reason - which is great!!!
Does anyone know the times when El Gona or Super jet buses leave? and from where I can book them?
I am travelling to El Gouna from Luxor in September and will be staying in the Sheraton Miramar. I have tried to research this area as much as possible and have found very little information. I have just purchased the Lonely Planet guide and even this has limited information .
I would love to hear about the area, and not look at publicised websites that I have seen, I want to hear from YOU, regarding restaurants, beaches and things to do, location of the Sheraton and where I can walk too, plus like every woman the shopping facilities.
Any information and feedback would be greatly received.
Thanks a million
Peggy
We have covered a fair bit of discussion on this topic previously

I was there a few months back and only have praise for this resort. I plan to go back May 2005 (just came back from Sharm last week)

going back to egypt for my 4th time at the end of march/beginning of april cant wait!. Going to stay at the Sheraton Miramar in El Gouna, Ive read some of the comments from people on this site, but theyre a little dated, I wondered if anyone had been recently and could tell me what they think, not just about the hotel but about el gouna too. Also if anyone has been with portland direct I would be interested to know what they were like.
Of course i know the weather will be nice, but again it would be great to here from someone who has experienced the weather there in march/april.......will i need something warm for the evenings?
Thanks guys!
If it is calm - and consequently warmer - it unfortunately encourages the mossies to roam around then, so you may wish to travel prepared! They do spray the hotels and foliage regularly but the little blighters can be persistant.
If you read previous posts, you will find very little change to Gouna overall in the last 18 months or so. There has been more building (apartments and villas) and that is on-going, although these are away from the already developed areas round the Sheraton.. They have now made the square in downtown Tamr Henna a pedestrian zone which really has improved that particular area. Plans are afoot for a third marina (for super yachts!) and polo ground plus Four Seasons (7 star!) Hotel, but these are all very much in the planning stage.
We will be out there again next month (and fly out in early April too) so if you have any specific questions, please ask
Thank you! Im so jealous of you going out again soon! I cant wait. I had said that I probably wouldnt go back to egypt again because I dont like being hassled, which was a real issue in sharm el sheihk, but Ive heard el gouna isnt as bad. Hope you have a fab time! ps. whats the temperature like during the day that time of year?
Shop keepers and restauranteurs in El Gouna are not permiited by terms of their lease to approach people and hassle for trade os it's not at all like walking round Sharm or Hurghada. still plenty of bartering though
Thank you! Im so excited now! taking my cousin with us, he's only 15, first time he's been abroad, never even been on a plane! He's getting very excited too.....dont think he's going to want to come home!
Just found these 360 degree panoramic shots of El Gouna - they include the Movenpick, Sheraton Hotels and Panorama Bungalows etc - so may be useful for anyone planning a trip to gouna in the near future!!
Does anyone know which company does the Panorama bungalows, or if this is accommodation that you have to book direct and get your own flight?
