SNORKELLING, this was one of the things that we had been most looking forward to and one of the things that dissapointed us the most. Not because the fish werent breathtakingly beautiful, but because of the destruction that people are causing to the very fragile enviroment. There is no control whatsoever about people in the water, people were swimming far to close to the reef, kicking off huge chunks of precious coral, feeding the fish with bread rolls, and basically having no respect for the delicate balance of their surroundings. Unless there is some form of regulation or conservation programme put in force then I believe the entire house reef will be dessimaited and dead within 5 years if things continue they way they are going.

With the further development of the tourist industry you'd think the authorities would have to protection of this habitat secured by now. After all it is a key unique selling point for Egypt over Tunisia and Morocco etc. Sad to hear :(

Yes it is sad but true, we were all trying to be careful going into the Red Sea, but kids were picking up all the jelly fish as we were swarmed by them. We stand on precious living things in the water, we don't mean to, but we do.

Some Eygtians we spoke to said in a few years time they will be stopping guests going into the sea for the above posts reasons. So if you are visiting Sharm or other beach areas, eg, Hurghada, make the most of it, its all about to change.

Some buildings a lot which were supposed to be hotels are not going to be finished off, because the regulars we stating if it becomes to purpose built, it will be another concrete jungle like Tenerife(His words not mine), they didnt want riff raff and pubs splattered all over.

hope you are able to salvage some memories from this holiday.

I mentioned tht russian problem a few weeks ago - and some long standing members didn't believe what I had said about drugs and prostitution - even though I have absolute proof of this. Sadly, I was hoping to be proved wrong.

Corruption is everywhere in Sharm - money is a great motivator.

I am so so sorry to hear about your misfortunes.

Im also sorry to bother you, but I need some info about your trip to Taba.

Did you take wine boxes as you said you would and if so did they burst?? I am off to Taba on Monday and have bought the wine boxes and have them well wrapped up in the case, but am worried about hold pressure etc and am very worried the foil bag might expand and burst.

Would be very grateful is you could let me know?

Oh Briar

What a really sad thing to happen to them. It really doesn't sound like it was their cup of tea at all. You would think that Thomson would have been more accommodating particularly as it was their honeymoon.
I hope they both feel better soon.

That's sad to hear Briar that they have not had a very nice time on their honeymoon. Nothing seems to have gone well for them at all and what should be happy memories for them seems to have turned into a nightmare.
Maybe we are all a little too enthusiastic at times in extolling the virtues of sharm although we also noticed this year that with the amount of building going on and a change in the atmosphere in Naama it appears to be turning into a typical tourist resort. reports about faliraki a few years back spring to mind and I hope it does not turn out like there. it maybe is a bit easier for us as we stay quite a bit out of naama and our purpose is to go diving so perhaps we tend not to notice what else is happening elsewhere.
anyway give our regards to the couple and we hope they get better soon and can put this episode behind them.

Do you think it is worth sending a letter off to Thomson and explaining the situation? If you/they could say that they were virtually obliged to come home because of the tummy problems (ie food poisoning) perhaps they might give them a partial refund of the 400 pounds. Or could they claim some of it on insurance saying they felt to unwell to stay?

I now it sounds a pain and they probably want to put the whole sorry experience behind them, but that is a lot of wedding money to give up.

I have seen the lovely pictures you posted on the Turkey forum, and it looks like they had a great wedding day, which is something they will remember for ever so hopefully that is some consolation. But they must be so dissapointed.

Oh dear! The OP's holiday sounded a complete disaster. I feel really sorry for her as this is such a disappointing outcome when you have saved hard for, and really looked forward to, your summer holiday. We are off to Sharm for the first time next summer and i'm really praying that we won't be disappointed; I did have my reservations re. the heat, possible illness, immunisations etc. but have gone for it anyway. The resort (Sol y Mar Mirabel Beach) looks amazing and my sister, having gone there this summer, couldn't recommend it highly enough. I think word of mouth is so important when considering a holiday somewhere new.

Unfortunately it's not just Sharm that these things happen. My wife and I went for the holiday of a lifetime in March, a cruise down the Nile on a five star boat and then a week in Luxor in the best hotel. The boat and hotel were brilliant but we were very dissapointed with everyone being so desperate for our money, they would get it off us any way they could. We were conned out of cash three times (By the rep and the locals), had money stolen, was constantly bullied and harrased, it didn't turn out to be the best holiday ever!!!! Luxor is an amazing place but we will never go back to Egypt again.

Briar,
What can I say they must be so dissapointed, such a let down after looking forward to it so much :(
I hope they're both feeling better now.

It's a good job my hubby doesn't go on this site as I've just managed to convince him not to cancel the holiday I booked for Sharm in Feb.This would be his perfect excuse!!!!!!!!

He reckons it looks too Touristy, noisy etc He would have preferred a quieter destination, still in Egypt but QUIET!!!!!!

Thank God we're not staying at Dreams,we're staying at TC Kirosiez!!!!!!

Hope it will be OK.

Hi Briar,

What a disaster! So sorry for the newly-weds and indeed you! They must be absolutely gutted!
Hopefully, when they have had a chance to reflect a little they will put a scathing review in about the hotel and it's shortcomings.

Doreen,

It is so obvious from your comments that what your hubby and you need is a long dose of NUWEIBA! You can't say we haven't told you how perfect it is!

Don't worry, you'll have a great time! Sharm is a great place, we've all been there at some time. With a place the size that it is now you will always get the odd hotel that misbehaves on occasion, but the vast majority of people who go there have a ball! A holiday is mostly what you make it yourself Doreen, so just aim to enjoy yourself no matter what!

When I was in Sharm last year, we only ventured into Naama Bay once but I liked it.
I wouldn't want to stay in a hotel right in the thick of it though, the Conrad was great....peaceful (I hardly moved from the beach/sea all holiday!) and relaxing.

Now you've been "chipped", Pippy, you probably wont be allowed past any of the checkpoints anyway!
