Thanks everyone for the replies. I am just going onto the economycarhire web site now to get it sorted. Thanks jayjan.
By the way has anyone heard of Zitauto, someone mentioned them to me and wondered if anyone has had any dealings with them.

Hi Rose & everyone, I only overheard a conversation in Faro airport in May this year as someone had got the booking of car grade mixed up and travel rent seemed to want silly money to upgrade them compared to the UK, this is what it sounded like but maybe i'm wrong dont know. We have booked economycarhire for October but because we are picking the car up in Albufeira as apposed to the airport & returning it to Faro airport on departure it is a different company issueing the car. Funny thing about it is though we have saved £50 doing it this way and they will deliver to your doorstep & the car will actually come from the depot at Faro Airport in the first place so really cant see the logic in it. I think the hire company is algarve auto who are supplying the car but as I havnt got the invoice in front of me I maybe slightly wrong in the name. But I still highly recommend economycarhire as a good company, & value for money. Dont I go on!! but thats a womans perogative lol. Regards jayjan
Interesting about you saving £50 when having the car in Albufeira and dropping it off at the Airport. Just as a matter of interest I checked this with Travel Autos and Economy Car for our next week in September and TA would charge £6 more and EC would charge the same. Don't know if it's still TravelRent. You haven't reduced the hire period by a day, have you?
Regards, Rosemary
Hi Rose, We are in total staying for 8 days starting 30th Sept, we are picking the car up on the 1st Oct but the confirmation is still charging us for 8 days because of the times in delivery and dropping car off. As I said the company who is providing the car is called i think Auto Algarve but still booked through Economycarhire.com. I can assure you we have saved £50 doing it this way even though we have to get from airport to our house but a friend is picking us up which is a bonus. We had to supply an address in Albufeira (but not a problem cos we own out there) and economy carhire gave us a local number to ring for delivery time. I keep going online and testing these things on car hire, strange sometimes how they come up with these things but it worked for us this time but maybe not next. Regards Jayjan
i was looking on the net the other evening for a mate who's going to Monte-Gordo september. he'd previously been but didn't do any booking before so we tried out the one he'd used on the last trip "National"
went on the web site and did the car, place, dates, times etc. and came up with a huge ammount well over €300 for 5 days rental. was going to try and surf up some other rentals but, he decided to give them a call and check. National (Faro office) came back with a price including all the dammage waivers of just a little over €200.
looking at the above posts this web quote error must be costing them a lot of business and economy car hire as posted above just cost them another customer as i just checked and they're €50 cheaper for the same deal.. does that web quote cover all insurances..

Yes, both Economy Car and Travel Autos cover everything in their internet quotes. As Jayjan says, it can be a bit of a lottery so it's always worth checking around on the net. Have you tried Regards, Rosemary

he's booked with Economy car hire.. as posted above..
Got the flights, car hire and now trying to get a confirmation from the Calema Hotel
Hi Rose I think me and you should be on commission for economy & travel autos, we should see, I think his name is Jose who runs travel rent bookings from airport about this, (Ha ha ha some chance). But they are a really efficient company and never had complaints with them.Like I said in earlier post we have even taken our own UK car back from Portugal to UK cos its cheaper to hire one from them due to insurance & UK road tax.Happy driving everyone. Regards Jayjan
I'm at the end of august for one week in Plaia da Luz. Is it necessary to book a car in advance or can it be made there. I'm afraid at this time everything is already booked out. Does anybody know.
Greetings
guenter
We always book a car in advance and can recommend Travel Autos because their charges are all-inclusive and they do not charge any excess in case of accident or theft claims. They also cover a second driver free. You can get a quote on http://www.travelautos.com/quote/?ref=TA070 and you can either pick up the car at Praia da Luz or from Faro Airport if this is more convenient. I have read recently that there is a shortage of hire cars out there but Travel Autos seem to have plenty of cars available at present.
http://www.economycarhire.com and they too do the all inclusive Super CDW insurance, and 2nd driver free, + free delivery to your accomodation. Try a few of the companies and see what you get. Good luck and have a wonderful holiday.
You will always find that booking on line in advance is much cheaper. The agencies are much dearer. We went with 'economy'
http://www.travelautos.com & http://www.economycarhire.com have been recommended they are the best companies by far to hire a car from on the algarve. Happy driving. Regards Jayjan
well its already been said in previous posts that Thank you very much for the quick answers. That helped me a lot. I will book now in advance, but I don't know if I should take a car for the whole week. At an former holiday on an greece island I rented a motorcycle for 2 days and this was a very interesting way to get around. I would like to rent for 2 days a motorbike and for 3 days a car.
Does anybody know if it a problem to rent a motorbike?
Greetings

Yes there is a place in Albufiera that rents motorbikes almotos@mail.telepac.pt BUT I think that there is not much difference in price between them. Check it out anyway and see what deal you can get. Would be interested to know b.t.w.
Hi Guenter,
auto jardine/holiday auto are 2 good companies am using economycarrentals.com for the first time this year they use a local agent and were pretty cheap best bet get a quote from them all
http://www.ecomonycarehire.com they are so reliable once you have used them you will never change( no excess on insurance apart from tyres and windscreen). Well recommended, we had our own car in Portugal and found it was just too expensive so we drove it back home to UK, and we dont use anyone else in fact we have booked with them up to May 2006 for our trips out to our home there, try them cheers jayjan
Hi Lynne book through
http://www.economycarhire.com. no excess on insurance 2 drivers and exit into Spain all included. Regards Jayjan
