I am thinking of booking the confortel hotel in Fuengirola with my friend for a long weekend. Neither of us has been before or know anything about Fuengirola so would be great if anyone can help with my questions.

1. Is the confortel in a good spot - ie near the restaurants and bars and shops. We don't mind a little walk of an evening.

2. Any restaurants we must visit, as we aren't there long we would like to visit the best ones. Not into british bars or restaurants whilst on hols - no pictures of food and chips with everything if that is possible. Have heard there are lots of nice fish restaurants.

3.Anything else you can tell me about Fuengirola would be really helpful - good shopping, is there a harbour area, beaches nice etc?

Many thanks.

1. Yes, right on the beach at Los Boliches. Centre of Fuengirola is 10 minutes walk in one direction and Torreblanca is 5 minutes in the other direction.
2. Two very good restaurants are right by the hotel. La Carihuela Chica is a good fish place and is on the corner opposite the hotel and 20 yards behind that is a tapas with a twist place called Matahambre, it is marvellous. Loads of little dishes and variations of traditional tapas as well as larger meals from all over the world. Almost 100% Spanish clientele.
3. Beach is long and sandy with all the facilities you can wish for. The port/marina is just up the road, loads of bars and restaurants but too English for my taste, apart from the Kudamm German restaurant :D . Fish Alley runs parallel to the seafront, one street back in the centre of Fuengirola, dozens of good bars and restaurants. Big shopping centre on the outskirts of town called Myramar but there are also loads of shops on the centre of town too.
I have heard the hotel is nice, some guests of ours did the beach part of their holiday there and came to us for the "real Spain" part. So go ahead and book it!

Excellent advice for Big Chiv. He knows his stuff. Though I'd allow a bit more than a 10-minute walk to the centre of Fuengirola. Maybe half an hour?

I'm a fast walker and don't need to stop and look at the shops on the way :D
