We went to GS last year, middle 2 weeks in Sept. first day was wet, remaining 13 very good. Plenty of activity going on but we prefer SB.
Another thing to remember is whilst SB is as flat as a pancake, GS is built into the hills and some hotels are a good climb from the front.
The Toonman
Toonman - why do you prefer SB? Is it because there was more going on? Or what was on just wasn't as good?
We actually prefer Golden Sands, for us Sunny Beach is TOO big and busy, but there is still plenty going on in Golden Sands.
It really is each to their own. The only thing about G.S. is pick an hotel near the beach, you could say it's in 2 halves, north of the Admiral hotel is the quieter half and south the busier,so you have a choice.

hi, we are going to Golden Sands for the second time, the first was four years ago. We went in Bonkers a couple of times and the kids (now 12 and 15) are looking forward to going again. Some of the info seems to be saying there are alot more young people out to party, which we didn't really see last time. Is Bonkers still ok to take our teenagers in, and are there any other 'family' bars than the Muppet bar, which seemed to be the only alternative to Bonkers then.
There are quite a few new bars and night clubs this year in G/S also a few more kareoka places to .The muppet bar is still as busy and also Bonkers as well .This year we did find a lot of young single people our hotel had quite a lot in it and they were playing football in the corridors at 3am also pushing each other in the cleaners trolleys.I found It is getting more for the young now than the family resort it once was
Thanks for that info, it sounds like it will be a bit different from our last stay. One of the things that we liked about the place was that there were mostly families. Hope it's still a good holiday tho'.
Hi Lia we still enjoyed our holiday. You will find a lot of changes and lots of new hotels , So hope you and the family have i nice time June
Thanks June I'm sure we will. I was just having the last minute panics.
I also never have to worry about falling down and rolling down the hilly steps which are numerous in GS.
It is down to personal choice and the best way to find out is to try them both, and keep going back year after year.
Can't wait until Sept 4th.
The Toonman
The difference between GS and SB is that SB is much bigger and most brits go there because this resort has been built years and keeps improving every year.
However with the chear prices you will enjoy whatever resort you go to because most people are very friendly.
....can anyone advice me places to visit and restaurants to eat at.
Now staying at the Admiral
Do go on both the noddy trains to give you an overall picture of the resort.
There are loads of excursions available it all depends on your specific requirements, there is something for everyone.
Balchik - gardens - go by taxi.
Nessebur - history - Excursion probably best
Varna - shopping museums and Roman baths - best done by bus or taxi.
Waterpark - bus from outside hotel - very near. 24 leva per day, drops to 18 in September.
Dolphinarium and sea-park near Varna - best done by taxi.
And thats not counting boat trips or longer excursions to Bulgarian villages etc.
Re restaurants I will not give recommendations because what one person likes another wont. It may be the good chef's night off or the restaurant may have changed hands or even the waiter could be having a bad day.
Hope this helps.
Patka
Hi - thanks for the advice everyone. I think, if we get to go (still trying to pay off this month's trip!) we will go to GS, just to ring the changes. And if it isn't so big that's OK, because we're only going for a week. looking at next year's brochure, the hotels seem slightly cheaper than SB. Patka said that south of the admiral hotel is the busier part of the resort. Is most of the action on the front given the rest of the area is hilly? The hills or not too much of a problem - we are healthy but also lazy
As Patka says most of the action is to the south of the Admiral. Where the mini train stops you will see a road going up ( follow the crowds). At the top is where most of the action is, Muppets, Bonkers etc. The Hotel Atlas is the landmark to look for. You will find loads of other places on the sea front so it's a case of testing them out .
GS isnt small :/ theres alot going on, and if your only going for a week dont worry, u'll have plenty to do, i love the fact that there are less brits in gs. dont worry about the hills, the little train things take you up there for like a pound
Have they bounced the prices of the noddy trains up? It only cost 1 lev last year or about 35p.

spoke to lots of unhappy people who were staying in the alen mak {hotel from hell} would be pleased to answer any questions about the resort.
Did you enjoy your holiday, we are going on 11th September.
Were you near hotel perla. Can you recommend places to eat.
Thank you
the international hotel is a large hotel/casino in the middle of the resort and across from the beach. your hotel is about 1km up the hill from this so you should be near enough to all amenities but far away enough so you dont get all the late night noise.
good places to eat are friends, mamma mias, these are across the road from the international.
have a good holiday, if you want to know anything else id be happy to help.
Any idea how much spending money we need, there is 2 of us going for two weeks BB. Did you take levs or travellers cheques.
Did you go on any trips.
Thanks
