We have lived in Torrevieja for five and a half years. NO problems, but we hear of problems from time to time.
The Torretas are near the town centre and are reasonable if anyone wants to stay near the town and beaches. La Siesta and San Luis are really nice urbanisations further out....we lived there for 8 months.
The Pacha venue is NOT in the town...it is quite a drive from the town actually.
There is a lovely promenade and Marina area with maasses of restaurants and clubs and night market. Carrefour Supermarket and Mercadonas, and Lidyl and Aldi are all here too, with others like Caprabo and Champion. The beaches are good, and we have been very happy here.
We're going to visit friends out there in January and to be honest I'd never even heard of the place!
Can you recommend any hotels/apartments for us to have a look at?
It will only be myself and my husband and we like to relax but have a mooch round diffferent places
Any ideas of places to start looking would be great
Thankyou

As I started this thread, thought it only right and proper to give some feedback.
We had a great holiday in Torre, although we were about 3 miles out of the centre in a place called La Mata. Buses were frequent and so travelling into Torre was no problem if we wanted a more alchol filled evening than the usual restaurant and stroll. Torre tries (mostly successfully) to be all things to all men. A family resort which has a "beer street" and fair amount of nightclubs. No it is not benedorm but where else is. As a seal of approval, we found a lot of spanish families holidaying in the area as well which is always a good sign. Beaches were clean and restaurants friendly.
As with every popular destination crime is an issue, and Torre is no different, we were told when we arrived at our villa always to keep the villa locked even when out by the pool (which may have been a little over defensive). there are streetwalkers in some areas, mostly on the road out to the go kart track, although they leave you alone if you are not interested, like most sales people they know their market and a bloke walking with his wife and two children it aint.
One thing I would say is be on your guard. The family that were out with us had their bag stolen from the beach. A teenager was trying unsuccessfully to do handstands near them and whilst they were distracted and watching his antics another teenager grabbed the bag with cash, camera, ect. By the layed back attitude of the police when reporting this it seems they care little for the plight of another holiday maker who can claim on insurance.
All that being said we had a great time although next time we visit Costa Blanca would return to Moraira, which is a little less crowded.

Have a look at Beninter.com and check out hotels in the area........
the Torre Joven Hotel has been refurbished and improved dramatically...you can get them direct on the Internet. Near Beach, shops, restaurants, south of Torrevieja.
Torrevieja.co.uk is an amazing forum site and you will get all your questions answered from there too.

Going to Torrevieja in a few weeks for the first time - borrowing an apartment of a friend of a friend !
So know nothing about the place!
Am travelling as a single mum with three children.
Any suggestions on where to visit and where to eat would be good.
Like to eat traditional spanish food, and not english pubs - if you know what i mean.
Thanks.

Hi
I will be staying in Torrevieja with my friend and her 6 month old baby in the next couple of weeks in the La Dorada Club Aldea Del Mar - does anyone have any information about these apartments especially regarding the proximity to shops etc and what there is to do in the area with having a baby with us. Bit worried now reading this thread about the crime rate!
Many thanks.

Aldea Del Mar are very nice apartments not to sure about the La Dorada Club as the area is residential as well. You are 2 minutes from the beach. There is a small supermarket 5 minutes away. Mercadona about a 2 minute drive or 15 minute walk. There is carrefour hypermarket and Haberneras shopping complex with 64 shops about a 5 minute drive away.
Plenty of restaurants nearby. There is also markets on a Wednesday and Friday. There is building work going on near Aldea del Mar but should not interfere with your Holiday. I have lived in Torrevieja for over 3 years and love it. Just be on your guard as with everywhere there is some crime in Torrevieja mainly opportunists and pick pockets in the Markets.

Thank you for your reply. We have decided not to hire a car. Do you have any idea of the taxi fare from Alicante airport please? Also, are there any day trips do you know of that we can do?
Many thanks
Many thanks
Hi MrsGeordio Not sure about taxi fare may cost around 50euros. For day trips check out http://www.costablancalive.info I have not used them before but they do day trips to Benidorm, Guadalest and Cartagena plus other places. Have seen them advertised in the local freebie papers. Hope you have a great time here in Torrevieja i have lived here for over 3 years and still love it
Hi Mrsgeordio,
I left details about taxi prices in the thread 'Alicante airport to Torrevieja'. I hope it is useful and have a good holiday!
