Taxi's' well you have not mentioned how far you want to travel. In general though a five mile journey would cost around 6Lm which is £10.00. Yes a little on the expensive side!
You can shop around though because most car hire places also run a taxi business, I manage to get from the airport to Mellieha for 10lm. Busses are regular and cheap!
Beer in local bars is quite cheap compared to UK prices depending though on what you drink. A pint of local Cisk (lager) is around 60 cents which is about £1.00. My local bar in Mellieha, does Guinness, Stella and the likes for between 95 cents and 1.30lm = £1.60 to £2.20. The local beer is very good!
Food depends on what kind of meals you want. A three course meal with wine at one of the many excellent reataurants would cost approx' £25.00 p.p. However you can dine cheap enough with the likes of burger and chips/pizzas and pasta for around £5.00 p.p, and the quality is far superior than that what you get herein the UK.
Me and my wife are coming out to Malta at the end of September for two weeks, for our first anniversary we are staying at the coastline hotel in Salina bay, do you know what it is like? And what can we expect weather wise whilst we are out there (19/9/05 - 4/10/05)
The weather should be sunny but you may find that you will get a day or two that will be showers. The daytime temperature will be around 70f but it will drop at night time so take a jumper/cardigan to keep the chill off!
Your hotel is situated a little out of town but I believe they run a service into Qawra where you will find a number of bars/restaurants.
I hope you both have a great time in Malta and you must explore the island by bus!
All the best!
