just returned from hols and at the start of our hols, yes are luggage went missing.Only it didnt really go missing,it was left in England along with another 31 suitcases at gatwick airport.Basically we were told they just generally didnt put all them cases on the aircrart!!!!!
why???????
That was monday lunchtime.
No one informed us at the airport (corfu) after 1.5 hours at the luggage carousel we reported it.
Eventually it was delivered to our hotel tues pm.
What are our chances of compensation? We lost two cases out of three.
Big inconvieniance on our first day!!!!!!!
What sort of compensation are you looking for for missing 2 suitcases for one day ?
Kind Regards

Check your travel insurance. There should be a section on delayed baggage.
Thought this was a serious security worry.
If you didn't get some luggage at all (as opposed to simply delayed) claim against the airline - it's their fault. If you claim on your insurance you'll pay an excess. Insurance should cover you for unforseen and unavoidable events. The airline's failure to load checked baggage is hardly unavoidable - it's crass incompetance.
When will we wake-up and start to hold the guilty party to account ? Claiming on insurance simply pushes-up all our premiums and does not force higher standards upon the poor performing companies.
Nought like a good rant!

This seems to be a common accourance at Gatwick. We flew to Meorca with First Choice in June and spent 2 hours sat on the tarmanc before taking off! When we boarded we were told by the Captain that a bag had been loaded in error and we had to wait for it to be located which took 15 minutes. After this a huge thunderstorm hit the airport and all planes taking off were delayed. After an hour we got moving, went to the runway. After moving for around 10 minutes I looked out the window and we back next to the Thai Air 747!! we sat next to to ride out the storm. It turns out that the baggage handlers at Gatwick had removed the wrong bag and spent another 20 minutes trying to locate it!!! people were getting quite angry but to their credit, as it was not in their control, the Capain and crew were fantastic. We got a drink and were kept well informed. The captain did all he could to get us on our way and we finally left after 2 hours! He even admitted in all his time flying this was the most embarrasing expeirence of his life
Crass incompetence is a bit strong. Yes an error but when handling the hundreds and thousand of items in a short space of time then I guess mistakes can be made. ( The airlines hardly do this deliberately, the cost of getting to the person on another flight plus courier/taxi to the hotel is not something they want to do ).
As far as claiming on insurance or against the airline. What is being claimed here for cases missing 24 hours a few items that were essential which would be very few in 24 hours or is this wanting compensation just because.

You say some of your cases arrived with you. Just goes to show that the idea of spreading your items between cases is the sensible way to do things. Then at least you have something to wear. Friend of mine and his wife spent a month touring the far east. Their luggage caught up with them on the flight home.
Which airline/airport services company do you work for?
I believe Salington "lost two cases out of three". I'm assuming she means that eventually, only 2 were recovered, 1 lost. Therefore, claim against the airline.
If luggage is late arriving, that's why insurance is useful. You just purchase the essentials and keep receipts.
Regarding security, why do airlines get upset when luggage incorrectly loaded without a passenger on the plane ? Of course, a suicide bomber could travel with his bomb but if he can send the bomb on its own, he gets to do the whole thing again in the future. Remember Lockerbie ?
As for handling millions of pieces of luggage....machines do most of it using the barcodes printed on the labels. How would you feel if Tesco scanned your purchase and charged you £27.00 instead of £7.00 - you'd rightly complain and seek your money back. Of course mistakes are made, but commercial mistakes come at a cost and it shouldn't be borne by the guiltless customer. How do you think the airline would react should your taxi tyre blow-out and you arrive after check-in has closed ?
Watch the Easyjet program (Airline?) in t.v. and see how the airline reacts.
I work within the industry but neither for an airline or an airport. Not sure what point you are making here but I perhaps explain the security issues if you so desire.
So "why does the airline get upset if luggage is loaded without the passenger" I thought that was obvious a passenger could check-in a bag with a bomb and then not get on the aircraft as you mentioned Lockerbie so you answered your own question. This is different to a passenger check-in a bag and assumming it is on the flight with them so not considered the high security risk.
I think we are reading the post differently. I read it that one bag turned up on the carousel and the other 2 arrived at the Hotel the following lunchtime. Hence 24 hours without some of their luggage.
Agree with thats what insurance is for. Small items for 24 hours would be minimal I guess.
I dont understand when you say the customer is paying for the airlines mistakes, they have travel insurance. Tyre blow out way to the airport again insurance will pay for the cost of the missed flight so again do not see what youu are arguing about.
Bar Code at tescos and lost luggage, they hadnt been overcharged the mistake was likely one luggage bin left behind in the depot by error. Unfortunate a pain but sadly some humans can make errors and in most cases the airlines do they best to rectify the situation as quick as possible

I travel about 200,000 miles per year in the air and my baggage is lost on average about 10-15 times per year, it always comes back and I simply accept it as a fact of travelling.....
My bags will often travel without me, once I've checked them in and flown then it is assumed I would have been happy to fly with them and they are cleared to be loaded onto another flight.......
