hello everyone, we are back but have been feeling a little delicate since our return...so tired and very dicky tummies!!!!
well what a holiday absolutely fab and we will definately return to egypt but probably not the holiday inn!
the hotel itself was adequate however we hit the two weeks when the place was full so not enough sunbeds, towells glasses or staff.the food was repettitive and mostly beef strange as i never saw a cow anywhere..i managed to eat but my husband and daughter lived on bread and soup.
i cannot honestly say that the hygiene was adequate..although our beds were made each day the sheets were not changed in two weeks and i am of the firm belief that the pool was the source of most of the problems as we became friendly with a number of people who were also ill including some severe ear infections....
this all sounds very negetive but despite the above we had a brilliant time as we took full advantage of the wonderful snorkelling and diving available and i dont think that anywhere has the bonuses of the red sea. we were fortunate enough to see a whale shark and reef shark whilst out on a schooner so that puts the problems with the hotel in the shade......and the people were just fantastic couldnt do enough for you !!!!
we were actually quite lucky as we didnt need to see the doctor while we were there i know of at least three people who had to go on a drip while there.
we teamed up with mandy and her son adam(who were also ill) and had a good time anyway and we met some wonderful people .
in all honestly though when we return we will be trying somewhere else!!!
all the shopkeepers in the hotel were great and if the management just got their fingers out then this has the potential to be an ok hotel....its all been said before nightlife is nonexistent entertainment...you can set your watch by the music played at night....but i did actually appreciate the quiet ...would say dont go here if you want any evening entertainment..
anyway i will think of more as i go along....
beautiful country though !!!!!
oh and we met everest but he and mrs e scarpered to the coral :rofl
sorry we couldnt make the party swiss but you wouldnt have had enough loo roll for us!!!! :shrug never mind there will be other times im sure

hi taffycat again my husband dave wanted to do his own review so heres the other side of the coin.......
the hotel wasn,t upto the standards i had expected even though i knew it had teething problems.there semed to be a general lack of ability to clean anything adeuately and several times i was served drinks in glasses that had only been rinsed in water so we always used straws, most of the plastic glasses served at the poolside bar were cracked as they are kept in the freezer, also the bars were not adequately staffed.all the staff though tried hard to accomodate any requests and are very friendly.we had problems with the room safe and the curtains which were fixed fairly quickly.i had a bad stomach from the second day and am still recovering there appeared to be a lot of people who had similiar complaints with additional ear infections, and some people had the unfortunate experience of being placed on a drip by the local doctor. there was a green film around parts of the edges of the main pool, and when i used my snorkelling gear in the pool it was clear that th water needed to be cleaned more often or treated. when i compalined to the peltours rep he said i had been the only person to complain which clearly wasn,t the truth as i had spoken to sevral people who had made complaints, i also put my complaints in writing and asked the rep to send it to the head office which i intend to follow up this week. we also had a hole in the bath which had been patched up with grout, which probably expained why the tiles on the balcony had not been grouted.
egypt though for me was spectacular the people where friendly and i had some good conversations i really recommend the snorkelling day at waterworld as the food was the only dcent meal i had in two weeks, also the staff were excellent well done waterworld. we also went to st catherines monastery which was really enjoyable though taffycat was ill that day, we had a few hours in dahab which i enjoyed. thoughwe had booked a jeep to go as afamily the naturetours guy changed it and we went along with another family who had to accept out itinery all in all a good trip only spoilt by the hotel. dave

Hi
I'm back too!!
Can only agree with what taffycat has said, although I'm a bit more forgiving!
Adam had an ear infection, and although the pool hygeine wasn't fantastic, he spent so much time underwater I think he would've got sore ears anyway...he was in the water from 8.30 til 6pm everyday!!
We had upset tums, but nothing too drastic, mainly down to the temperature I think. The air conditioning in the room defaulted to 22 degrees which I think was too cold when it was high 40s outside....the room got cold very quickly if you didn't remember to turn the temperature up....I think that's the main culprit for our dicky tums....not so sure about those who needed IV fluids though, maybe that was a bit more sinister. I took Buscopan with us and it was very good for sorting us out.
As taffycat said, the food was very boring after the first few days, but you could always get pasta freshly cooked in the evening if you didn't fancy the other offerings.
I'm not very well at the moment but can't definately blame my symptoms on the holiday....I'll see what my GP says tomorrow!
We did have a fab time, as we met up with taffycat, Dave and Lois, and another lovely family...the kids had a ball and the snorkelling was fab. We did the 2 day trip to Cairo which was well worth the extra money although it was a very long drive.
Thats about it for now!

hi brear
i think alot of the problems we encountered were because the hotel was full and they were unprepared for this!!!!!
dont get me wrong we had a fantastic time but there is not alot to do apart from the pool and the beach which is rocky...i hate slagging places off and feel that our expectations were high .
the hotel needs alot of fine tuning but our basic needs were met and i have to say you get what you pay for(the holiday was a bargain you would pay £500 each for two weeks s/c in greece)
it is also quite isolated we paid £24 for a return to waterworld and it was about £15 to nuweiba .
im afraid its true about the evening entertainment though :shrug but we were happy to go to bed early anway so didnt upset us too much..pity everest isnt about because hes been to egypt lots of times and this was our first trip so we couldnt really compare it to any other hotel.. :?

Im hoping taffy that this time (sept 10th-17th) will be a little quieter then!!

Never mind... i will be spending 70% of my time in the water and the other 30 in bed....

The only part that worries me is the stomach bugs that everyone seems to be picking up..... not sure whether that could be the food, the pool, or dehydration.....

Never mind i will just have to wait and see..... girlfriend will kill me if its bad though!! :(
I will let you all know how it goes though.....

Hi all,

Glad to see Taffycat and Mandy got back safely. Sorry to hear about all your bugs. I really have mixed emotions about going to the Holiday Bin now, following your experiences. I'm especially not looking forward to an ear infection - are they serious, or can they be treated successfully by anti-biotics? Help!

I'm really looking forward to the snorkelling though. Is the hotel next to the coral reef in the Red Sea? Or do you have to go on trips to get out there? Did anyone venture across the Israeli border?

Look forward to your replies.

When are you going Lulubear???

The hotel is right on the sea yes.....

Hi Brear,

I believe that the hotel is by the red sea, at least that's what the brochure said...Although we have since had a call from the holiday company, who said that the brochure wasn't exactly accurate and that the holiday inn is 22 kms outside of Taba Heights.

We're going at the end of January. To be honest, I just want a relaxing time and I'm not too fussed about the nightlife...hopefully not speaking too soon here!

I would say that the Holiday Company don't know too much...

The hotel is on the sea with its own beach. I would estimate the distance to Taba Heights at over 30 kms... but who cares anyway ? Taba Heights is only a collection of four new hotels and a water sports centre and marina carved out of the middle of nowhere.

The Holiday Inn is only 12 km north of Nuweiba and Tarabeen and thus easier to go down to explore that area than from Taba Heights.

Thanks a lot, that's actually really helpful! I'm just looking forward to chilling out and doing a lot of snorkelling.

Did you have a good time when you were out there? Did you get bored with the food? We'll be there for 2 weeks.

Hi
THis subject seems to have dried up at the moment. My husband and I are going to the holiday inn for two weeks in December does ayone know if the sea is warm at this time of year and also what sort of time it gets dark?
One otherbthing to the people that have been here is the Vodka drinkable??? :?

Just got back from the HI Taba and its excellent..... the weather was perfect the snorkelling was excellent, the people are great and contrary to other posts the food is excellent also. Fresh pasta, rice and excellent dishes every day. The bread was out of this world! The people who don't like the food must be looking for burgers chips and pizzas and really should just bite the bullet and go to Ibiza. Probably the same people who got really drunk and this dehydrated and then sick!

Me and my girlfriend both loved every second of this holiday. If you are going soon you will love it im sure. The people really couldn't do enough for you.

It is perfect.

The vodka was drinkable but they give you huge shots so you might want to ask them to give you less!!

Where did you book two weeks from as im interested to go back and xmas would be as good as any!

Hurray!!!!!

I'm so glad you had a wonderful time Brear! You've really made it sound fabulous! Thanks so much for letting us know how you got on. To be honest, I had a sneaky suspicion that the food would be a nice variety of local produce and other cuisines and I always love to try local food, so I'm pleased you cleared that one up. Speaking of clearing up, did you have any tummy upsets (sorry for the pun, terrible I know!)

Vonny, re the sea temperature, I can only presume that it'll be nice and warm around December - Feb, because the general temp is in the high 20s. I'm more than happy to be corrected if I'm wrong!...
