im going to luxor in 7 weeks with my 2 children @partner can you tell me what trips are available @ how much they cost ,the children are 10 @7 ,do the tour apprator do these trips going with cosmos
Maxine, most do the usual trips to the valley of the kings n queens usually tying in temple of hapsheput, they are normally quite inflated prices as well, we travelled there in sept last year and had 2 weeks in luxor, we have a taxi no of a local young man, who looked after us at a fraction of the cost of the tour operators. feel free to pm me for info. Also if your planning on going up to cairo or a short nile cruise there are cheaper agents than the reps that run out of resort, you will often find that the hotel can organise trips too at a lesser amount that the travel reps on resort.
there are lots of travel agents in luxor out front of the winter palace you will get the best deals here, and do not forget to haggle
I have been to Egypt twice in the last few years. The first time I went woth a local guide to do the trips and it was fine. The last time I used the Thompson guide and I felt it was much better. The Egyptologist who took us around the sites was fantastic. It is slightly dearer but well worth it.
You must do the balloon ride over Luxor it is great. Also, go to Abu Simbel, excellent, I felt this was better that seeing the Pyramids!
We travelled from CAIRO to Aswan, it was tiring but well worth it. We done ALL the sights, excellent and I would highly recommend it. Can't wait to go back again
Just thought I would add to the 'dumb' questions We are going to Luxor and Hurgarda in March and I intended to organise the trips once there. My logic is that the hotel reception is more likely to be able to get me a reputable guide to take me and my wife around the temples and the soukes. Am I completely off the plot, should I just do it through my tour operator (Kuoni) now? I always get nervous when confronted by a rep with the chance of a day trip. . . Any recommendations on where to visit, what time, how much to pay etc etc etc. All suggestions most welcome!
Welcome to the Egypt forum!
Not a dumb question by any means. My personal advice to you, after some experience is to go and see a company in Luxor, called Jolleys. They can be found just to the right of the Winter Palace Hotel as you look at it from the river. There are several other companies in Luxor, who, according to others with experience on this forum, are just as good. I have only ever used Jolleys and never ever had any cause for complaint. Choose exactly where and what you wish to see and go haggle! You can negotiate, especially if you have several people wanting to do several trips.
If you use your hotel reception, of course, they will be adding their charge to the eventual price and although I have nothing but praise for Kuoni, having used them for holidays several times, they too will be adding a substancial "commission" to the price. If you have time, look through some of the posts on this forum and you will find Jolleys mentioned a lot as being very reliable. Above all, do not be afraid to tell them EXACTLY what you want and i'm sure you will not be disappointed!
Hi Carrot, thanks for replying so quickly (!) sorry I have taken so long but I thought I'd better go back to the first page and read all the messages. What a superb resource; almost every question I could have thought of. As we will only be in Luxor for a few days I don't want to spend any more time than necessary sorting out the crucial trips so I liked the idea of Tut Tours who seem to get good reviews and can be booked from here in the UK. as we are doing a short two centre break I was wondering what the cost would be to get from Luxor to Hurgarda by taxi (are there any other options?) as I suspect that the Kuoni organised will be tortuous to say the least!
It looks complicated so it might be easier to book a taxi for the day.
Does anyone know if 'Yaseen Mahmoud' is still available and how to contact/recognice him?
If not are there any other recomendations.
Thanks
