Our 1st week here we visited this resort and spent the afternoon on the beach, very nice clean set up. Five beds to our left were 2 girls (from Derby we later found out) who went for a swim and foolishly left a bag on the sunbed. My other half woke me up to say she was sure she had just seen someone tying his shoes up at there sunbed and may have picked something up wrapped in a towel (she first thought this man was with them).
When I got up and looked round I saw the back of the man climbing over the rails at the side of the beach. When the 2 girls returned she had noticed her bag missing.
We got in touch with the beach attendant and told him what had happened and gave a description of the man.
The 2 girls were supprised to here the description as they had seen this man talking to the beach attendant earlier in the day - but he denied any of this. He did eventually get the police down but they told the girls to go to the police station in Peurto Rico to report thr theft.
Another women also near us then reported her bag and phone missing also.
The plot thickens....
On our 2nd week we returned to Mogan as my sister had joined us for the week.
We decided to have some lunch in one of the beach side cafes, and after a while noticed a man sat at the front of the restaurant (no drink or food) just a towel, staring across at the beach (scanning ?) a few times he got up walked to the beach side, looked around then sat down again - it was the same man, I recognised his shorts and shoes the wife remembers his towel.
So how do we handle this one ?.... we went to the beach attendant and told him who we had seen,'' I will sort him and hand him to the police''he said,so after hearing our description off he went (we watched from the other side of the beach on a footbridge). The attendant approached the man, they shook hands and he got up from the table and walked away - amazing !!
The way we look at it,the attendant has the freedom to move around the beach and maybe 'eye' things up and signal to the bag snatcher who then makes his move on a victim.
Later,we made a report to the police and are looking up the Mogan local council if they have one,and will inform them via e-mail.
Not a nice thing to see happening, but also foolish of people to leave things out on display - I know this could (and does) happen anywhere but just a warning to what is going on at this beach.
It still wouldn't put us off this nice resort either.
