Firstly Hello to Everyone as this is my first time posting on this site.
We are first timers visiting Goa. We have booked to stay at the Mobor Beach Resort B/B in Cavelossim for Christmas and new year 2006.
Has anyone stayed here?
Or can give us any indication as to what is to be excpected?
Weve heard that the Restaurants near-by are excellent and the beaches are idylic (this will be where we plan to spend most of our time ) as first timer's we are a little apprehensive as to what to expect.
Thanks for any info Folks.
Ellie
you have nothing to be apprehensive about, i never stayed there but went there most nights for a couple of drinks, it looks very nice. there's some great restaurants all within a 5 minute walk. chemist and other stores directly opposite the entrance. there's a small road by the side of the hotel that leads down to the beach and gaffino's shack. Cavelossim is a great place, i'm going back for christmas, might see you....bye!
Ill keep an eye out for you at Christmas then
I have asked for Mobor to be added to our hotel review page. If anyone can do a report that would be great!
Thanks Fiona
Am planning on staying in Holiday Inn, Cavelossim in November 07. Loads of topics to read about hotel and surrounding area, but can't find anything out about the beach and sea in that area(suitable for swimming?), can anybody shed some light on it for me, thanks. Pictures would be a great help.
I read somewhere that the Leela Palace Hotel was having a jetty built for a casino boat, but this is probably in the river rather than the beach.
Turn right onto the beach and you can walk for about 20min up to Cavalossim for a larger choice of shacks. If you pass these you can walk for about an hour along the beach to Varca without being accosted by any beach sellers. There are no shacks along this stretch so you cant get a beer until you reach the shacks at C.J.M.

Note, the sea can be very dangerous, especially where the River Sal meets the Arabian sea. Two drownings when we were there in February and April and two years ago we had the unfortunate experience of seeing a dead fishermen being pulled from the sea on Cavelossim beach. Just treat the sea with respect and you'll be okay.
Enjoy, you will have a fantastic time !!
I have looked on their website and it looks very nice but can't seem to find any reviews anywhere about it!
Thanks in advance.
Do you mean the Mobor Beach Resort in Mobor/Cavelossim? We had booked to go there at Christmas but decided to cancel and rebook elsewhere. My friends were in Cavelossim and I asked them to go and look for me. I cant say too much here Fiona will delete me!!!
I havn't stayed there but it is almost directly on the beach where there around a dozen shacks and there are around 20 rest/bars in cavelossim as well. It is owned by the same family who have Gaffino's which has been well run for many years. I read good reviews on it somewhere and if I find the website I will post it.
It was on holidaywatchdog.com there are now 7 reviews
some of our family stayed there last year and were happy with it , it now has its own road to the beach and its own beach shack fenced off so no beach sellers can come in the shack is run by an english lady and has an english and indian style menu the food was very good last year . there is an english bar in the basement of the hotel which is also run by an english couple who are great and it has A/C which can be quite welcome the pool area is small & basic but ok and the staff provide a good waiter service outside from the upstairs hotel bar which is run by the hotel owners son on the whole we would say its good value for money because we found it reasonably priced anita
I am really in two minds now. It seems that it might not be the best place to stay in that area. Is there any other apartments/hotels in the same price range that have a good reputation?
Tight jock, can you let me know the website your referring to?
Thanks.
Not sure why it didn't come up holidaywatchdog
Gaffino's same owners, Sao Domingo's a guest house but really nice (madaboutgoa has stayed there and recommends it) Palm Grove is another guest house style hotel nearby. I have also been quoted Luisa By The Sea on Demfer.com at a good price.
p.s. We spent a month staying just opposite Mobor Beach Resort last year and I had a nosey round and it looked clean and good value for money.
We were booked in at Gaffinos last year but when we got there a problem meant we had to stay for 2 nights in Mobor. Found it to be fine. Preffered Gaffinos though even though it is a star grade below Mobor. Really depends on your standards. If like us you have been to some of the rougher hotels in the north then Mobor is a palace. If you are used to 4 star the Mobor will be a dissapointment. But when we were there it was clean and tidy and we would not hesitate to go back. The problem we had is that Mobor is at the end of the resort and to get to the bars etc we had to run a gaunlet of stalls and couldnt be doing with the hassle every day.
Hi Allsaints
http://www.moborbeachresort.net you will see the plans for the villas. These are going to take some time to complete and, dependent on sales enquiries, I would imagine these won't be completed for a further year or so.
I would like to recommend Sao Domingos, which is a two-minute walk from the River Sal and a lovely seven-minute walk from Mobor Beach. We've stayed there on four occasions and I cannot fault the place at all. Book direct and for £20 per couple per night you get accommodation and wet room, Air Con, anything from the breakfast menu, safety deposit facilities and fridge. All in all an absolute bargain. A separate building with 19 rooms should be available at the start of next season. Also, Edwin owns the Goan Village restaurant, the food and staff are fantastic. Take a look at http://www.saodomingosgoa.com
Hope this helps.
There will be building work ~~ the resort is also offering for sale private villas, which are at the back of the hotel towards the beach.
