My name is Erika, I'm 30 yo, journalist from Portugal.
I will be travelling to Goa on March 4th, departing from Gatwick Airport.
My companion is my partner at work and we're planning to do some reporting and collect material maybe for some exibithion or a book.
I am full of questions and this is a great place to get real answers, for what I can see!
For any of you who are from London... I will fly from Portugal to Stanstead airport with Ryanair (that saves me almost 200 euros and that's 1/6 of my salary), will arrive about 11 am, then I'll get a transfer to Gatwick and our plane is at 10.55 pm. I have never been to London and have no idea how much a lunch and a light dinner will cost us - so here's my first question: how cheap can I eat in Gatwick airport? Also, can you tell me if there are a lot of transfer services (I found only one in the internet) or I must get that one?
Arriving in Goa... I heard it's better to take dolars than euros (pounds aren't so good to us, rates aren't very interesting), is this true? - And can I change them at the airport or where is it advisable to do it?
We'll be staying in a modest hotel in Candolin. I already read the review and sounds like we are heading some adventure, oh yeah... Park Avenue hotel :s (and to think I asked so many questions to the tour operator, in UK, but I didn't know this forum yet )
So, from that starting point, which places you recommed us to get more of the local population lifestyle and daily routines? Markets, business centers, etc... Where can I meet some local fishermen and get them to take us along on the boat? We're counting on hiring a taxi driver to get us around - does someone have some real good one to recommend?
Among other places we want to visit, well there's one place my partner says he's seen on some National Goegraphic documentary lol but I can't seem to find it on the Internet - people extracting salt??? Does anyone know where this is?
I appreciate all your help, this forum is amazing for all travellers. Anything you need to know about Portugal, specially in the north (O'Porto), count on my help
