HI just got back from maspolomas/melonoras but went to p rico for a night to be honest did not think much of it at all beach looked nice but not much of any atmosphere at all the whole area looked run down. walked up to some sort of shopping centre with bars and clubs which was very run down and more suited to the club 18-30 type of holiday not very nice at all unless your on a young lads or girls holiday.

the melonras area which is part of maspolomas area also known as the light house was very very nice good shops and restaurants and a few bars quite low key but very smart.

Thanks for the comments- vic, do canaryforum.com shared transfers drop outside specific hotels or in the middle of the resort? Prices are very good but don't fancy turning up in the middle of somewhere I don't know at 2am!
Any advice as to what mix of currency to take and where to get it changed? Also, roughly how much would I need to budget for 2 of us on S/C for the week?

They drop you outside your hotel ,so don't worry.
Our flight lands at 2.20am,so by the time we've got our luggage and done the 40min drive to Puerto Rico we're looking at 3.30am arrival.

We just order mixed euro notes
Usually for the 2 of us S/C we take roughly £650 for a week (at the minute that's about 925euros based on £1.41 exchange rate)

i went to puerto rico last year there was 5 adults and 3 children we stayed in the terazza mar sunsuites which brilliant they also exchanged your travellers cheques there in the reception to. they have safe deposit boxes on arrivel at a small charge. i found pr a little on the quiet side which was nice as i am used to going to benidorm and when i compared the price difference to benidorm it was quite expensive your looking at prob paying between €3.50 - €4 for a pint of larger thats around on the lower complex if you go up further on the hill to the higher complex (europa) we went in the baracudda which it was € 6.50 for pint and half of larger but we didnt go in every pub. the big red jet boat on the beach was excellent and cost €30 each sounds alot but well worth it.

I live in Puerto Rico and i would say it was safe. Obviously you have to take the usual precautions - dont leave cash or items lying around on the beach or in your apartment. Dont walk around late at night - taxis are very cheap, so you dont need to.

The commercial centres look run down but there are very good restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets.

beer can be found for a euro a pint or 2 for one at 4.50 in Harleys. Covent Garden is good too 'for young things'

2 night clubs open until 8am sometimes - Fibber Maggees and Jokers - never been but apparently very good.

Bars and restaurnats around the 2 harbours are nicer and have better views for those who prefer the quieter side of life.

Lots of lovely beaches with imported white sand

I was in PR last summer for 2weeks staying at the Terazamar aparthotel, with my partner (22&21years old).
This hotel, was good, (apart from the cockroaches<<<MASSIVE>>>) any way, the commercial centre was the centre at the bottom and we stayed 5mins walk from it. The centre itself was good, apart from the (excuse the pun 'lookie lookie' men, and Restraunt people trying to entice you with something; just ignore politly and keep walking). We found some nice restaurants, but with regards to the beach, we never went, we just used the pool, the one beach we did use was along the coast (cant remember the name, but it started with 'a').

As far as beaches beginning with A- could be Amadores - white sand - crushed coral - estaurants on the beach - nice in the evening for ameal as the kids can play whilst you finish your meal
Anfi, imported white sand from the carribean. Timeshare place but beach is open to the public.

Both lovely beaches

Puerto Rico beach - golden sand, bit rocky in the sea on the left side, mainly when the tide is out. Rent canoes, sailing boats etc
Tauro - rocky- Bar PioPio on the beach - good tapas, run by Brits, great on a sunday evening - live music
Taurito - swimming pools made to seem like lakes - little bridges, water ways, a few slides

Patalavaca - Rocky
Arguineguin - small sandy bit - nice town with fishermans restaurants along by the harbour

Only a week today until I'm off I'll be staying at the riosol, any advice on where to go, where to drink etc etc?

Havent Been To Pr In About 6/5 Years,But Thinking Of Going Back In April. We Loved It All Those Years Ago,(Even Though I Was Only A Kid).We Were Looking For Apartments At The Top Or Middle-ish Of The Hill,As We Loved The Europe Centre and Dont Mind Getting A Taxi Down.Does Anyone Have Any Recommendations?
Im Sure Its Changed Now But Are Any Of The Old Bars/ Restaurants Still There In Europe Centre? Turbo?..Mermaid? I Cant Think Of Any Other Names. Lord Something? Cococabana - or something like that?

We had lovely week in puerto rico, we stayed as guests at 'Bahia Blanca' timeshare resort(I will put a post about bb in the accomodation section).
Our first trip was to Arguinegan market, where we were promptly ripped off by a guy selling sunglasses(one of the first stalls you come to as you walk into the market(so be aware) he was selling 2 pairs for 15euros, and he showed us some gucci type pairs, we picked and he said"that will be 25 euros please" I put them down and walked off, he came after me and I stated that he should advertise the glasses at that price, He gave in eventually but wouldnt give us the case that they came with, after 5 minutes of wearing them my daughters broke. I didnt return as I didnt want any more hassle off him, but I have learnt my lesson.
Luckily we didnt come across any 'looky looky men, but were hounded by 'Anfi resort' timeshare sellers, they seem to home in on familys, even talking to the kids when you walk on, personally I think this is quite intimadating.
I think Puero Rico is a lovely place with stunning views , and something for everyone, plenty for the kids to do with mini golf, trampolines, parks and waterparks(We has a very enjoyable day at the atlantis water park) Its quite expensive at 21 euros but worth every penny for a days peace and quiet
We took a very crowded bus to' puerto mogan' and I immediately fell in love with the place, and will definately return their for a holiday. It is so quaint, and I also found the locals friendlier than in P.R! We got the ferry back which was lovely, and got a free glass of sangria and lollypops.
The Weather was fantastic for the first 5 days, 27d,then it took a turn for the worse over the weekend with high winds, clouds and the occasional light shower, however it was still quite warm. We were told a storm was expected on the Sunday night, so all the sunbeds were stacked up, but it never really materialized, however it did get really windy on the monday, and all interconnecting flights between the canaries were delayed for 10 hours or more.
Im sorry if this report is long winded, but I do get very passionate about my hol experiences. I have been too Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, which I enjoyed but didnt really think there was much beauty too them, however... Gran Canaria is stunning and will must certainly return as their is so much more too see(the mountains etc) but we will wait until little man is old enough to endure long days on the coach
