As far as I read it you have to have extra insurance to hire a scooter........

just like hiring a car

I always hire a scooter and i'm pretty sure it's covered on my travel insurance.

If you do hire one though you need to keep vigilant as the Cypriot drivers are nutters. The coach drivers are the worst.

If your careful you'll be ok. The roads around Protaras aren't that busy but don't push it.
