Got a couple of questions for anyone just returned. Did you do any trips, if so what would you recommend and how much were they? Also assuming no trips how much local currency should we take for tips etc. Is there a cashpoint nearby where we can get some money or should we take it with us? Has anyone tried the spa treaments, if so how much and how good? 6 weeks to go and and so looking forward to a fortnight of rest and relaxation.

Hi
Going to the Sonnesta Beach Resort Taba in a weeks time and would like the following answers if possible:

What is the best currency to take with us or travellers cheques?
Is there a place at the hotel which we can withdraw more money if needed?
Do we need to take beach towels?
Will we require a visa or can we sort that out at the airport on landing?

Plus any other handy tips that will make our holiday better, it would be much appreciatted

Thanks

Andy

Don't forget to read the HT members reviews of the Sonesta Beach. As always there is the odd bad one, but overall it seems most folks really like the place.

Andy there is another thread on here about the Sonesta beach resort Taba that I started before.

We came back from there on the 25th July and we Loved it, didn't want to come home.

There isn't an ATM there but as far as I know the rep can arrange for you to go to Nuweiba to use the one there which isn't far.

We just took English money and changed it up in the Bank of Egypt which has a branch at the hotel and you get much better rates there. I got some before we went and only got 9 something to the pound but you get over 10 there.

mind you if you are going AI it is hard to spend money sometimes we took our 3 teenage boys with us and still came home with £300 I'll try and pop on tomorrow incase you have any other questions, haven't been on for over a week so busy at work but will do tomorrow just incase.

Hi Louise

I'm Jo andy's wife, not long to go now, getting really excited, we have also got a daughter of eleven and a son of seven so i hope there is plenty to keep them busy, I was wondering about the snorkelling, it says it is free in the brochure if you are all inclusive, but you have to pay for the diving. How long are you stopping we are just there for a week, already wishing we were there for a fortnight!!!

Is there absolutely nothing around the Sonesta then? No-where to have a walk to in the evening? Did AI include local cocktails, and only one buffet restaurant? THinking about it for next year... managed to find silly price on internet!

Hi does anyone know if there is anywhere at the hotel to develop photographic film as it cannot travel in the hold of an aircraft, planning on buying film after the security check in the uk but need to get it back from taba either in hand luggage or already developed any advice would be appreciated

Don't know about the Sonesta, but you can get films processed at a place near the port in Nuweiba (sorry, can't be more specific), or there is a small photo with develop/print faciliites at the Coral Hilton hotel - they do a same day service.
But - I have taken films in checked baggage before and it's been alright.

Glad you had a good time. THinking about booking this for next year, shall be travelling as family with 15 and 21 year old. Will this be like Sharm where everything is hotel based, and nowhere to go in evenings, no shops apart from hotel shops and other hotel shops around? What was beach like and snorkeling, and beach bar in the evenings? Did you have to get up early to reserve a bed by the poolside or beach? We shall be looking to go at the beginning of July. Any info will be great, thanks!

hi all please be aware with this hotel it is for people who require total relaxation gorgeous beach lovely hotel and pool but be under no illusion there is nowhere to walk to not a bar or a shop the hotel has its own few shops but they are expensive we did our presi shoping on a trip out to dehab, it has other restaurants if you fancy a change and you get a credit at these and a well air conditioned night club open till 2am for the entertainment childrens disco etc ai is till 12 midnight, we did get up early to reserve a bed as we wanted to be near the pool to keep an eye on the kids and the snorkeling and diving was excellent reefs just off the beach fab we thoroughly enjoyed our hol :P

we went last december
fanatstic, clean, nice waiters (some a little bit too nice - watch the roving eye's haha)
you are hotel bound unless you do a trip, nothing outsdie the complex, but we didnt mind it was so lovely there - walked straight onto the beach
there is a place to change money but it only opens part time
few nice shops in the complex
but the g&ts on the beach were just heaven
fantastic coral at waist high water, amazing fish - so recommended
