we like 2 places in particular Vivaldos right down at prai de oura beach. You have to walk right through the chinese restuarant to get to his place. The meals are excellent and on an evening sitting outside above the beach eating a good meal cant be beaten,They serve you hot fresh baked rolls as you wait on your meal with fresh butter...mmmm.Alex that owns it is very friendly and the white sangria is very addictive. The other place we eat is in the old town just behind the square. Baiote its called and the meals are also excellent there. Its usually very busy but meals are good and service is excellent. They serve steak on a stone which is delicious.
Personal favourite was Annas which I thought was head and shoulders above everywhere else we ate. Others highly recommended were Bailote, Louisiana and the mexican down by Fishermans Beach (Sombrero?).
Tres Palmerias. The locals love this place as do the reps so best to book
Sizzling Stone. We went twice it was so good.
The Clay oven. As good a curry as back home
American Diner. A safe bet for a good breakfast or a burger.
Last but not least. Go down cardiac hill to the beach and turn right. The resturant next to the chinese is fantastic. Great food and sea views. Sorry...cant remember the name....found it on the last night.
Don Carlos in Albuferia - They have pictures of lots of celebs who have eaten there including Tony Blair and Cliff. You are best reserving though not very big
I live in portugal now but i thought i would recomend some places to eat out at depending on where you are staying:
Just up from the oura hotel you will find ANNABELLS BAR which does excellent lovely home made food there steak pie is to die for, they are very reasonable priced english and very friendly people..
just down from the same hotel you will find THE CHINESE ROYAL on the roundabout god thats excellent food in there with a great choice to choose from, its not expensive i would say reasonable the staff are very friendly and helpful, but be careful during the august month all the portuguese from the north come down to the algarve so it does get busy then.
just down from there you have THE NETTO very nice food and quite cheap it is portuguese owned but it is nice, apart from the man who suppose to work there but he just gets drunk everynight. LOL
Just passed the albufeira marina in sesmarias you will find the BOULEVARD restaurant which is all home made food and they do lovely sunday roasts its not cheap but i wouldnt say it was expensive you do get what you pay for here ive never seen steaks so big in my life than from here. this is english owned and very pleasant people. They have a lovely view from there patio area outside.
you also have the CLAY OVEN indian out of all the curries we have tried in the algarve this as to be the best one, they are reasonable priced and nice people.
Other than that you have Mcdonalds or kfc LOL
well if anyone would like any information from me regarding the algarve please email me and i will let you know what i can. the weather here at the moment is lovely a little too hot and sticky but manageable.

the lemon tree is just as you walk back to the strip on the coast road at first we thought it was a bar for the locals but saw it on the free map tried it & was happy with what we found good food at good prices & the staff were great. Caves do vinho do porto restaurant just off the square in old town very good live music.Tom & Jerries diner off the strip pluss many more too many to mention.
anything in monte gordo?
A few restaurant recommendations for Praia da Rocha:-
Falesia:-
Fantastic view over beach, especially at sunset.
The rack of lamb in herb crust for 2 is absolutely delicious. Almond cake is one of the best in the resort too.
Squash:-
Great service, friendly staff, open kitchen. Lovely place. Bit hard to find so either get a map or ask someone, like we did.
Try the chateubriand for 2. The flambe desserts are fantastic and they cook them in front of you.
Tokyo Japanese Restaurant:-
This litte gem is further towards Praia do Vau but is worth it. Book a table though so you get to sit around the grill while you're food is cooked.
You must try the flambe ice cream pancake. Delicious, although you will want more!!
Good value for money, fantastic food.
Restaurant Bar Sol:-
Very popular and busy restaurant on main strip in Praia da Rocha.
Food good for price paid plus you're asked whether you want the 'couvert' rather than just being given it. Nice touch.
Restaurants in Alvor:-
Lusitriana:-
Nice, friendly place serving lovely steaks & fish dishes.
Captain's Table:-
One of the best places to go if you want to try fish and have it filleted & boned for you. Lots of homemade desserts too.
Staff are extremely helpful and very friendly.
Hope this helps.
Ambrosia & Nectar in Olhos d'Agua - we ate in there twice in a week and the food and service were brilliant. You can find it on the hill towards the beachfront in the resort.
There was a large decked area outside, inside were large benches. There was a fantastic band playing covers of Coldplay U2 etc. It was located about 1 or 2 streets back from the marina front.
Sorry it's a bit vauge. Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks.

1. Almost opposite the Vilabranca appartments is the "Pinquin". It advertises its home made pizzas, which are superb, but also does a really good Portuguese cuisine. 30 euros for 2 people having 3 courses, wine, and coffees and brandy! (OK so we put on weight but what the....)
2. Just down the road to this is the "Triangulo" again excellent Pourtuguese cuisine (thats what you go to Portugal for after all!). same as above but a little more costly at 50 euros.

We went on a Saturday night and there was only one other couple in there (Alarm bells!!) on ordering the waiter had to confirm if the cook knew how to do a madras, the popadums arrived bathed in grease and the onion bhajis we ordered obviously had gone missing from the armys grenade cabinet.
With that we gave up paid for the wine and left noticing the cook was in fact an 18 year old portuguese lad not the 5 star "Chef" who had worked in the top indian hotels as advertised.
Advice is do not bother and go to the chinese restaurant which is very near instead.

can anyone recommend restaurant's in Portimao or nearby that will be open on24/25 Dec.
thanks,
ebma
Look on the Algarve Resident website( English newspaper) they have an article about places open for christmas dinner
.I had a look at the paper but they dont give anything in Portimao.
We will be staying at Tivoli Arade and can eat at Hotel but would prefer to eat out if its possible to find a restaurant nearby.
thanks again,
ebma.
Can anyone recommend any restaurants in Pedras Da Rainha. I am going there in July next year and it would be handy to know some good restaurants to try out.
thanks x
I reccomend O Solar dos Prseuntos which is about 2 minutes from Faro airport,O Tintol if you like fish this a must eat as much as you want for 10 euros it is in between Faro and Olhao
I recommend Casa de Rio in Alvor - lovely food and setting, overlooking the harbour and O'Bareos in Praia da Rocha - excellent choice of food with plenty of English dishes, large portions and very cheap. Great Sunday roast dinners!
Elle & Ella, on the out road near the crossroads in the centre.
Primavera, up the main street on the right. Fantastic food, lots of pasta, prawns. Mouthwatering! An old fave.
Happys - very family friendly. We have no kids, but still go here every trip. Great fish and chips, hanging kebabs etc. Good value. You will HAVE to book, or be very lucky!
Caneiras (sp?) beach bar, on the coast between Carvoeiro and Ferragdo. GREAT fish and prawns.
Bon Bon near Sesmarias - havent been for a couple of years now, but was always inventive, international food. Pricey but was always worth it. They dont take cards.
O Baradas on the road between Carvoeiro and Silves. Family run, really fresh fish.
