Only one new outfit? I MUST have a new summer wardrobe for my holidays plus at least one book to read. Once I have these I MUST relax on the beach/round the pool. Under NO circumstances must I be disturbed, kids are older now so they can go off and explore if they want without me holding their hand. Have to admit though even when they were younger hubby always kept them amused

I said "at least one" outfit.
(I do buy more but since giving up work to look after my little one I have this strange habit of feeling guilty if I buy something for myself and not her, so I hide things and produce them bit by bit when we are away. Hubby says "oh is that new" and I can in all honesty reply "no, ive had it for ages". It makes me feel better though He never complains but well, you know ......)
My 'little ones' are 'big ones' now but I still buy for them when I'm supposed to be out buying for me (you know birthday money etc). Why do us mums do that?
Also another must for my hols is Paella. I loooove it. Has to be the fish one though with all those lovely mussels and prawns and squid and monk fish and........................
Sorry started drooling then.
Can never seem to cook it myself like they do abroad. When kids were little used to be able to persuade them to eat it as you very rarely found restaurants that did it for one, always used to be for two, but even then there was so much that it would have fed 5. Now I eat the lot wether it's for one or two. I know I know, you're all thinking pig! but hey I'm on holiday. Also (I'm going to sound even more like a big fat pig now), doughnuts on the beach with all that sugar mmmmm. What do they cry?
'Mucho Calories', like music to my ears.

My kind of girl Im not a big fish person so tend to go for the meat paella. My mum is the paella master and can cook a lovely fish one (which I have sampled - just to be polite of course).
Another of my musts is that we always spend one day away from the resort sightseeing instead of lazing on the beach.
mind you i can combine eating with drinking and drinking with a bit of live music. haven't got the hang of sleeping and eating though
Sitting on the balcony in the evening listening to the music in nearby bars and people chattering.
A boat trip out for the day, stopping for the occasional swim
Kids making friends and havings lots of fun
nice and hot with a hint of a cooling breeze
although i dont want to wish my life away, i just want the next 4 months to go so fast so I can be in Gran Canaria
i also must learn a bit of the local lingo too ( but strangely enough, the last time we were in LC, i ended up learning Russian phrases rather than more Spanish ones!!!
Always buy a pack of playing cards from every country we go to.
I know of people that collect plates and tea pots from abroad.. but i tend to try not to get things like that as invariably we would break them before we leave the resort!!! ( one time we bought my mum a clock shaped like a camel from Timanfaya in Lanza and rob dropped it before we even got back to the hotel and it's head fell off!)
I seem to remember there was a shop somehwere in Edinburgh that sold squillions of different types of packs of cards.. bought a few sets myself from there a few years ago but i don't know if it still there. ( think it was towards the bottom end of the royal mile going towards holyrood house)
My mum collects fridge magnets from wherever she visits (so we always buy her one from wherever we go too). Says they always make a nice momento of places visited.
One of the best things I like about holidays is planning them and finding out a bit about where we're going. But once we're actually there I like to make as few plans as possible and just go with the flow.
We always hire a motor bike for at least one day and travel round the main sights. This year it was quad bikes (there was 6 of us & we looked like the Von Trapp family). Hubby insists on a daily walk to judge the pubs and restaurants. If we're in a group the men always have one drinking session and end up legless. I like a little bottle of something in the room to have a tipple while I get ready for the night. We're not beach lovers but we must have one dip in the sea. I usually end up swopping a couple of books in reception.
- a good book to relax with around the pool
- plenty of opportunity to people watch
- explore the "real villages" and get an insight into the locals' way of life
- a game of cards accompanied by a drink on the balcony early evening
Must nots - buy a newspaper
- talk about people/places back home
- worry about anything
shirley h.... definitely a must not ...worry about anything....( well except my little moggies and how they are coping without me!!!)
i love exploring!!! and also love having a swim in the sea love the act its so warm and clean and clear and sunbathing!!!
I always have to make a point of wearing every one of my 21 bikinis I take on my 2 week holiday, or I'll be subject to the "i told you so" all holiday!
The Adler Planetarium in Chicago
The Solar Furnace at Odello in France
The Space Centre in Florida
The Volcanoes inland from the Costa Brava
Mrs Hi De Hi usual insists on a cathedral to see.
I find the most important thing I must do on holiday is spend time getting to know about the people and thier culture we usually holiday in South East Asia , so this area is rich in culture , my other 'must do' is to spend lots of quality time with my husband as throughout the year we both work long hours I think it is great to have some time to spend having a laugh together, that is very important to me.
