I had exactly the same response from Tarek last Thursday.

I am visiting Hilton SB 20/2/05 for two weeks - hope not too much work going on.

We are off on the 20th too - maybe we will see you there....

Cant wait ...

Hi all

We are due to go to the sharks bay hilton in about 4 weeks but we just got a letter from Libre this morning saying that there was heavy building work nearby. As a result there was sporadic noise and dust across the hotel grounds. Does anyone know anything about this before I go and bend the travel agents ear tomorrow :D

Cheers

when we were there in April colin there was an unfinised site next door to the left . ( to the right is the concorde el salem).the site was then still very much a "building site" but it never really bothered you. :D . There did always seem to be a constant "background" noise but it was far enough away not to be bothersome and you didnt actually see workmen just heard their machines .hubby tells me they were "chiselling out the beach" at the time . I would imagine this is what libra are talking about and maybe they have started work on another area that is generating more dust. Cant say we noticed any dust tho. :D .

hope this helps a little

just had a look on trip advisor and there are a few people mentioning the dust

Thanks Lyn

Yeah we saw those reviews last night, not sure what to make of them at all. Everything from superb to beach unusable :? Maybe you just cant please some people.

I phoned the Libre customer help line last night and the guy said it was sporadic work, a day here and a day there as and when they felt like it. We stayed at the Nubian village a few years ago and they were building the jetty for the SAS Radison(?) nextdoor at the time, didnt seem to be a problem, maybe this is something similar.

I think I will have a word with our travel agent to clarify etc and run with it. I will take some pics when I'm there and try and post them

Thanks again :D

hi colin. I wouldnt worry too much either . From what we saw Libra are probably telling you the truth. We really didnt see a lot of action going on there at all but you probably get the odd few days when a bit more "action" kicks off. obviously i can only comment on what was going on there in April but as you know along that stretch of coast there is a lot a building work that you really wouldnt know about once you go through the gates of your hotel. the hotels are all very grand with a large amount of ground and a hotel that is next door really doesnt feel too near. :D . The concorde on the other side actually feels nearer whereas the "building site" has another piece of land seperating it from the Hilton and at that point the site starts sloping up a hill and going around the corner and you could just hear the rumble of their machines.

You will have a :D lovely time

Hi

Just back from the travel agent. After we mentioned some of the online reviews they eventually found out that the building work had now become continuous and very noisy and were advised to change hotels. We ended up canceling (foc) with Libra and have moved to the Sea Life hotel in Nabq bay :D
Anyway as my parents are traveling with us, I think the sea life being flatter will suit my decrepid old dad better

Thanks again

glad your sorted Colin - maybe the Hilton next time when the work has finished :D . Yes the hills at the hilton are quite hard going on the way back from the beach. Even i struggled and with the very high temperatures now I think you have made the right choice in that respect alone, especially if he is anywhere near elderly

Have just emailed portland about this. I'm due to go to Hilton Sharks Bay on the 9th October and payment is expected by this Sunday.

Will post their reply.... if i get one.

Anyone elso have any more info about this building work?

I emailed the Hilton Sharks Bay and got a reply within 5 minutes, reply below....

In reply to your query re the building work which currently proceeded near our hotel, up to the moment , it's hard to state at this stage if there will be any disturbance in October. At the moment they are doing some digging, which can be noisy, but I expect that when the digging is finished, we will have very little disturbance from the works.,definitely all hotel areas are usable for your own convenience.
I hope that I was of much help to a degree . Looking forward to welcome you real soon in our sunny resort,

Best Regards,

Eman Farouk
Executive Secretary

.... so still not sure if i should change hotel :(

thats quite a tricky one. It is a great hotel :D . if it is just the noise that didnt really bother us and cant say it seemed to bother anyone we spoke to. A large amount of dust could be a different matter :( . unfortunately im not sure you would get the complete picture from either portland or the hilton. you need to hear things from the guests and there doesnt seem to be any new reviews either here or on trip advisor. Have you tried any of the other review sites? Ianrich :? :? . we are looking to go back there next easter but i think it will leave a a little bit to see what developes.

We just arrived back from the Hilton Sharks Bay on Saturday. Yes there was some noise from diggers in the adjacent hotel. The noise was only heard at the beach as they were digging at that end, we didn't hear anything at the poolside. Dust was not a problem at all.
We absolutely loved our week at the Hilton and cannot wait to return.
