Puerto Pollensa would fit the bill. It is a beautiful place not noisy or overcrowded but plenty of restaurants, lovely beach and beachfront.

Only downside on 5-6 day break is that it is about 1 hour 15 minutes from the airport so a taxi would be expensive but fine if you are hiring a car.

Someone else might be able to suggest somewhere nearer the airport.

Kind Regards

Hi, I would also suggest Puerto Pollensa. The transfer time has been greatly reduced by the new motor way opening. It almost takes you door to door. We did it in June in three quarters of an hour. Would definitly hire a car as there are some lovely trips out. We did trips in the morning and round the pool in the afternoon because nothing is too far away. We go to Mallorca every year and wouldnt go anywhere else.

Have to agree with the suggestion of Puerto Pollensa, it's a lovely relaxing place and we went there in August this year and the transfer time was 40 minutes, practically a straight route. If you are looking for a taxi we used Conde Taxi's http://www.puertopollensa.com/transport-taxis-bus-trains.html they were brilliant and very easy to communicate with via e-mail and you pay no money up front. We paid 130 euro's return which was cheap compared to some quotes we'd had.

Good luck with your choice :D

I haven't stayed there as an overseas visitor for more than a night, but as a 40s person myself (only just - soon have to replace the first digit!) the places I know well enough to recommend for a chilled break are Soller and Puerto Andratx.

Both are about 45 - 60 minutes from the Airport. You should check these out on the web. These are upmarket spots that are real romantic break places. My wife and I escape from the kids to Soller (and Puerto Soller) for the odd night now and again and it is really relaxing.

I am so glad that Virgin Paul has mentioned Soller and the Port, it is for me the ideal spot but I had reservations about reccomending it because you specifically wanted a beach, and the beach is perhaps the only thing that lets it down. don't go if you want Brit type bars and want to complain about Germans. There are hotels to suit all tastes, we stay at the Eden which is outstanding value for money and will be back again in February. Another place you might consider is Port Cristo and the Hotel Felip right in front of a super beach.

Good luck I hope you enjoy Mallorca wherever you decide to stay.

Having had a VERY relaxing holiday in Puerto Soller in May I can certainly recommend it and in particular the Es Port Hotel (book with hotel direct). Lovely hotel - beautiful surroundings.

Hi - I am surprised no one has suggested Cala Bona. It is a very pleasant, fairly quiet harbour and beach resort. About 1hour from the airport with no yobs to spoil the peace. Some smashing harbourside restaurants. Levante hotel is Thompson gold.
Just a thought!

Hi, I agree with mk stockton, Cala Bona in the Levante Park hotel would be ideal, as there wont be any children.Me & hubby are there 22nd october for a week.I looked on the Thomson website and put in 8th October from Gatwick, as I dont know where you would fly from ,and for 7 days half board it was £708. Thats without insurance , standard room, standard seat & no meals on the flight.

I would choose Santa Ponsa as its a lovely resort with a fab beach plus its a short transfer from the airport :)

Santa Ponca is great - because I live there I forget to recommend it. It is generally a lot calmer than Magaluf and Palma Nova. Most things will still be open into October. The beach is one of the best. Stepps provide quality cabaret type entertainment and there are many good restaurants.

Additionally it is on good bus routes to Palma, Portals, Andratx etc.

Good value for money but perhaps not as select / quiet as Soller etc.

I too would recommend Cala Bona for a quiet holiday in October. The harbour is lovely for a romantic meal at night. I have stayed in the Moreyo, a small, family run hotel next to the Levante, it's very clean and in October is nice and quiet. A week from 8th October would be £117 (Medhotels website) for two people, half board (that doesn't include flights, transfers and insurance though).

Can I add Can Pastilla to the list please?

It is a beautiful quiet resort, very picturesque, whcih leads off from Playa de Palma. The beach is absolutely beautiful, there are loads of lovely bistros and restaurants, and the added bonus is that it 10 minutes by taxi from the airport, ideal for a shorter break.

We stayed in the Brasilia Playa, all rooms overlook the sea, and the noise of the waves lulled us off to sleep at night.

Beautiful resort, lovely people!

Has to be Santa Ponsa for me too.

Small, civilized and relaxed town, great sandy beach, plenty of restaurants and bars, attractive countryside, marina, scuba diving, walks in the national park, golf, less high-rise hotels than most resorts, 20 minutes from the airport and, best of all, only 15 minutes drive from fabulous Palma.

Graham, might that be something to do with you having some rental property there ?. :D :D

We have just come back from Majorca,

We did the first week in Santa Ponsa and the other week in Puerto Pollensa, the second week for us was by far better in our opinion. (not so tacky)

But to confuse you even more, we did a day trip to Puerto Soller which we loved and next time would book a holiday there.

Good Luck in deciding!!!

I bet you wish you hadn't asked now St!!!
Seriously - with the exception of the 'lout' resorts you can probably go anywhere in Majorca and enjoy yourself.

Its been a few years since i've been but i loved Las Gaviotas area of alcudia, just about a mile away from the main resort but set really close to a nature reserve and the place we stayed was right on the beach (alcudia park aparthotel) It had just enough for us in the way of shops, restaurants etc but wasn't at all rowdy and had the most stunning views from the apartment.
