Hi daveeboy, the livliest bars we found were British ones which were right the opposite end to the square on the opposite side of the road to the to the Pollensa Park hotel, a good 15 minute walk. Everynight they seem to do karaoke or tribute bands. We never actually tried these bars, we had to walk past them to get back to our accommodation but they were always packed out. We enjoyed the Irish bar opposite Tango's, great for people watching and they stay open till 4am if you're up for it  As for changes, I can't really comment on that as it was our first visit to this resort

there have been quite a few changes in the past three years although nothing that really affects the balance between stunning mallorquean resort and british haven. the marina has had a lot of money spent on it with a bit of a facelift and the new by pass to formentor means a lot of through traffic now misses the centre of the resort.

Mulligans irish bar (run by a turk called asan) is a lively night, this is just off the square opposite Tango and has a live band every Friday eveining but it really depends on what you wants as 'lively'. pto pollensa is most definately not magaluf and long may it stay that way
