But there are far more Threadfin around than Lined, I've found. Very easy 'mistake' to make working from memory too.
Anyway, I think we should close this topic before there are revenge attacks in the Red Sea too. We really don't want to start finding Butterfly fish with their teeth cut out, do we?
stevebell001, where was this great white that your saw snorkelling?
Hi all,
We're going to Sharm for the first time in Feb,really apprehensive about snorkelling now!!!!!! It sounds like you come out of the water like a pin cushion!!!!!!!!
Maybe I'm just thick but I didn't realise the fish bit you, better not tell the 12yr old he'll do one!!!!!!

Thank goodness for that! I was getting a little worried there! Im so gullible!
Please! Please! We'll have killer threadfins next! Please don't get paranoid about this biting fish thing. Rather concentrate on stopping the fools who are feeding the fish in these larger resorts. Maybe biting them would be a good idea! All the fish dont bite all of the time and its mainly small stuff anyway.
Just count your fingers and toes on the way into the water and again on the way out!

First there were ten, now God knows how many? !!!!!!!! LOL
Pippy they only bite fresh meat
I think she was probably wearing her high heels while snorkelling. They look like they could do some damage and the fish were scared away.
For some reason I missed the updates.
I was snorkelling and filming off the Conrad when I was hit heavily in the back. Being a person whose natural flotation level is underwater any touch is dodgy and I had to struggle back to normality. When I had turned round ready to fend off the attacker I found this little black and white striped fish had already scared off whatever it was.
I nearly drowned laughing!
Having seen Shark Tale since, it is pretty obvious to me what happened but no one believes me!

well now it all becomes clear!!!
I got bitten by fish in Hurghada - so glad to see I'm not the only one who suffered!
I thought it was just me - I do have a lot of scars, so maybe I looked tempting?!
guys, could I please ask a question about the fish? It may sound a bit strange but as i have never before been to the Red Sea, please bear with me! I'm not much of a swimmer but will happily have a paddle up to my waist in the sea. Anything deeper would freak me out a bit! Is the water clear up to that level, and can you actually see the fish swimming around you?
Thanks!
Thanks!
You most certainly can see the fish at that depth, and lots of them!
My mum can't swim, but when we went to Sharm last year she put a mask on, sat down in shallow water and put her head under!
Even without a mask you'll be able to see everything clearly

My neighbour returned Fri Night from Taba a hotel called "Wakala"[never heard of it before] but they had a terrible experience with these long snake like creatures in the sea----------the locals said they were harmless but nevertheless having experienced them once they never ventured out into the sea again
Are they common?????
Are they common?????
Apparently they are called fish snakes!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, I saw one of these in about knee deep water and was scared *****... it put me off going in again and only snorkelled in deep water on an organised trip.
So what should you do if you are actually bitten by a fish - most novices wouldnt even know what the fish/snake was called, and it may happen without you seeing the fish... should you use an antiseptic, or vinegar??

We talking Snake eels, or Cornetfish? Or small Morays (maybe the pale coloured Peppered moray - white with some black speckling) All are long and thin. Cornetfish are silver coloured and much more common. Snake eels are usually only found in sea grass, or hiding almost completely buried in the sand.
