Well....

It's che-de-cha and it is something like 'b*stard'
The appropriate response is ' Goo Haaa' which means 'eat doo doo' but much ruder

Also, Konkani is gender specific is some cases.

Example:

Two ke-saw ha? (How are you - male)
Two ke-shee ha? (How are you - female)

anyone know if this phrase book can be bought

Hi!
I bought a copy of Spoken Konkani, which is a phrase book at The Golden Eye bookshop behind the post office in Margao. They also have a great selection of english books very cheap.
It cost 100 rps

I too bought a little booklet from a local shop selling newspapers in Candolim a couple of years ago. I think it was about 50 rupees and gave you basic Konkani words and phrases.

Cheers for the replies, what we really want is a teacher/tutor to teach us seriously how to speak and understand the language rather than a few odd phrases.
GFF back in July 2005 you mentioned a tutor in Konkani/Hindu and I think that is exactly what we are looking for, do you have a contact number for him,
Thanks

Magay Maria is 'see you later' in Konkani and I believe the word for goodbye is 'miochay' but how is it pronounced? Lenny :D

Hi Lin
Sorry for the late response to this but I've only just read it.
The guy in question is called Krishnan, he lives in a little pink and green house up the lane that goes past Shooters. I remember speaking to one long stayer in particular quite a few years ago who had had lessons and said he was good.
GFF xx
