I'm not too sure I understand your question, and also see you have had no replies so far, so maybe I am not the only one If you are of pensionable age when you move to spain, then you "bring your pension with you". The "spanish pension" is for those who have paid into the spanish social security system.
sorry if my question was misleading . but we were having conversation and wondered what their (spanish) pension was in relation to ours. we were just curious?? i know our pension is not related to theirs otherwise we would go for german citizenship.
hi As far as im aware the spanish pension is about 500E a month with double payments in aug(for hols ) and in dec for christmas
thanks for that spanishlizzie
i know our pension is not related to theirs otherwise we would go for german citizenship.
Well, German citizenship alone mightn't make much difference but going to live in Germany might! EU citizens who change their country of residence can opt to either take their 'home' pension with them or simply take their entitlement and use it to claim a 'local' pension for where they are domiciled. You have to take one or the other - you can't claim both. Members of the EU are required to treat all other EU citizens in the same way as they treat their own citizens. So from the sound of it UK citizens going to live in Spain would be better off opting to retain their right to UK pension even if they are resident in Spain, if they would only get 500Euros per month.
On the other hand if UK citizens go to live in Eire they are definitely better off opting for the Irish state pension in preference to drawing their UK one. Increasing numbers of British people are opting to retire to Ireland because of this - the state pension in Ireland can be worth up 50% more than the equivalent UK one! It's an attractive option for many people - a better pension, no language problems and easy and cheap to get home to visit friends and family. The rain can be a bit of a downer though :-) The flow of 'benefit migrants' is not all one way into this country - it works in reverse too depending on circumstances.

thats very interesting (living in ireland) went to side (turkey)three years ago to an ai hotel. it was for germans (only two english couples there) had a cracking time--it would appear that they get a huge percentage of their working wage and retirement is just one big party i think this is the cause of the german aconomy problems as they can no longer sustain the retired age group
that you have accumilated can be paid in another country and that is all.
You cannot just opt for another countries pension if you haven't paid into the system. The pension Post a Reply
