We are going on our first visit to the maldives next year and found it all confusing. We started with certain criteria such as plenty of restaurants, swimming pool etc, after making enquiries I was advised to look at the smaller islands as they offer the most robinson crusoe feel whereas although the larger islands with their choices are great, you don't get the intamacy and are sometimes a number rather than a name. Some islands you have to share tables with other guests, which you may not like, anyway we went from wanting a resort like the Hilton and have settled in the smaller island of Mirihi. I know we won't regret our decision and are looking forward to our robinson crusoe holiday.

Hayes & Jarvis and Travelpack sell Mirihi - not sure which other operators do although Kuoni definitaly do not.
Hi
I just had a look at Hayes & Jarvis but it's a bit out of our price range. We can only afford about £2k each, and that includes getting to Gatwick airport (we live in Leeds and the flights from Manchester are no good as they don't give us much time from getting married to getting to the airport!)
We're still looking at Meeru, but other options include Sun Island (although this looks quite large), Paradise Island, Club Rannalhi and Holiday Island. Just spent all lunchtime going through what we can afford with the right flights!
It's not as easy as I thought it'd be!
Was just wondering if you have to go on honeymoon straight after the wedding ? I also live in Leeds, and we have travelled Sunday and Monday to the Maldives from Manchester. Have used Kwik Travel http://www.kwiktravel.com/ as the agent, and they've booked it through the tour operators e.g. Hayes and Jarvis, but we actually specified which Island and the dates you want to go, so they look at scheduled flights as well and try and tailor the holiday to what you need.
Just a thought if you have some leeway with regard to the date you go.
Regards
Sean
We decided int he end to go with our original idea of meeru. Mainly because it has more facilities and has a greater choice of restaurants. It was also within our budget, some of the other islands looked amazing but, unfortunately, were too much.
We'd like to visit the Maldives next November - but the rainfall looks high, would we be better off waiting till December time?
Also we're only looking to go for one week? what are peoples thoughts on that? is it long enough with the length of flight?
Can anyone recommend an all inclusive island that's not too quiet?
Sorry for all the questions! we normally holiday in Greece but have been dreaming of the Maldives for some time now for a winter break.
Appreciate any info,
Thanks
Cejay
if you can, I'd wait until December as the weather tends to be a lot more settled. November was pretty dismal this year with people reporting only 4 days of good weather out of 14.
It certainly is worth going, even if only for a week as your 7 days doesn't begin until you get there - because you fly overnight from the UK and arrive into the Maldives the next day, your 7 nights won't begin untill then so you'll get 7 full days of rest and tranquility.
If you want all inclusive (but not too quiet) I'd look at a few of the larger islands like Kuredu or Sun Island (both available through Eclipse Direct or perhaps Meedhupparu.
Hope this helps
Tracy
yes Tracy is spot on, you may get rain at any time through the year, some times youe lucky others not so, its a wonderful place rain or no rain.
Thanks for the replies,
We're thinking of Kuredu, Meeru, Meedhupparu or perhaps Paradise Island so far - do you know whether wine is included in the all inclusive options?
My wife and I stayed her last month. Very nice, small, friendly resort. Definitely no news no shoes. Quality chill out time.
Looking on visitmaldives.com it says the voltage can be either 110V or 220V and another website said "A variety of plugs are in use, including the two-pin flat blade plug and the round three-pin plug" - No such thing as standard then!!
I'm staying at the taj coral reef so I might email them directly but this is my first port of call.
TIA
Rob.
Hello, has anyone been to the Maldives during August, thinking of booking a holiday there but am hearing different views on the weather, can anyone help?
yes it will be hot - 85+ degrees day and night. you may get fantastic weather or you may get 10 days of rain. you really can't tell at that time of year. Best guess would be a mixture of everything - mostly sunny days with perhaps a couple of days of cloud and 1 or 2 of rain.
Would it put me off going to the Maldives - absolutley not. Going to the Maldives at anytime of the year hands down beats most other places.
Can I be cheeky and ask where you have previously stayed, this will be our first time to the Maldives.
Thank you
Tara
It is very casual as well not at all posh. Rooms are reasonably basic but all have air conditioning, fans and an outside bathroom. We found we were only ever in them to shower and sleep anyway.
have fun deciding.
we went to vilu reef june 2oo6 and had no problem they had the same plugs and supply has we have did not need travel adaptors
vilu reef is a small island but fantastic well worth a vist
