Bartered and paid about $28 as opposed to the $40 they'd quoted by email.
The suites are pretty good for not much more cash than a room. It's just an extra lounge, couch, table , but it makes a difference if one of you wants to get up at 2am and watch the football or something
Ask for one poolside on the ground floor, then you're literally a dozen paces from the water.
Only ever eaten once at the restaurant in 5 visits.....not bad food but you're within 5minutes of Little Italy, Seashell etc... so whats the point of staying in? Pool snacks are good though, homemade spicy chicken patty burgers from authentic Goan free range chickens.
I like the seclusion of the Sonesta, neither Candolim nor Calangute, but you're right on the beach, a few good shacks, and there're more little shops and restaurants opening up on the road up to Bobs Inn. It's quiet.
Stayed at the MD in December and while it was great, didn't think it was as personal as the Sonesta, nor were the rooms and beds as comfy.
thanks Chris- perhaps I should just phone them. It does look like that is the place I want to be
Hi Fiona, sent you a pm on this one
The saga continues- 2 email requests have now been ignored. Today I noticed they now have October prices so went ahead and filled in the booking form only to find the form has a fault in it and will not send! I have now sent off a third email addressed to the GM( thanks smartpati!). At least I've booked all my internal flights now. We might get there despite the efforts of hotel reservation staff!
Well the Sonesta is a beautiful hotel and I 've stayed there many times. However the management are deplorable, they are not interested in the British tourist, we don't eat in the hotel and can you blame us the food is awful. There are many excellent restaurants a few minutes away, the after seven is just round the corner.
When I was in Goa in November '06 the rumour was that the new lady manager was was overheard saying to the waiters, not to speak to the English because they don't use the hotel whereas the Finns use it all the time (and go to bed at 8 pm).The staff are constantly changing because of management attitude.
My wife and I were part of a large group who went there but there were so many problems and we just did not feel welcome, and most of us have moved on. I still say it should be one of the best hotels in Goa , its got everything going for except the management.
We still use the shacks on the beach in Candolim so I would advise you to go to The Sea side Shack owned by Remy and Fatima and family - go out through the gardens and keep to the right.
I am sure you will love the hotel, it is beautiful, you are right on the beach, its quiet but avoid the food.
anybody know a good Finnish name? Funny Rockerender- I just finished saying to the OH that perhaps they are not interested in Brits!
Just interested where you stay now Rokerender?
We last stayed at the Sonesta last February but I still get all the gossip because we use the Sea Side Shack. The management even stopped us walking through the grounds and refused some friends passes to use the swimming pool etc., which they paid for every year.
We now stop at the Santiago Hotel in Baga, an all inclusive hotel which is excellent(See my comments in Hotel Reviews). We would like to be in the Candolim area but have not found the right hotel. We were there last November'06 and are returning on February 24th '07 for three glorious weeks - please come quickly.
Regards
Our friends also use the Santiago and they will be there the same time as you for 3 weeks [eric & maureen] The only problem is we don't want a/i and like Candolim. Have a great hol.
