Everything will still be open won't it.

Being a bank holiday, I doubt if everything will be open.
I would think the bars run by Brits will be open, but the Spanish shops will be closed.
Are there many Spanish shops left in PDLA.?

I was in PDLA at the beginning of January. One of the days was Childrens' Day which, I was told, was a Bank Holiday by the man in the shop who was offering a discount just for that day. There was no noticeable change in the shops and restaurants apart from two restaurants that were closed so, if it WAS a Bank Holiday it didn't make any difference when it came to shopping and eating.

Hi Spindles....
Whoever told you Children's day was a bank holiday...was taking the Michael.
Whilst each region will have dates for the various fiesta's and honouring their patron saint, I can assure you that there is no such thing as Children's day being one of the 16 National Bank holidays in Spain.

Well, well, lucky that I didn't buy anything, even if he was offering a discount! I have to say that we were told by one of the "touts" outside a restaurant that the two nearby were closed as it was Childrens' Day, the day when parents spent time with their children and that it was a day that was celebrated instead of Christmas Day. Well, you learn something new even if it isn't true!

We were there 5th Jan onwards, it was Three Kings Day, and the Saturday...I think, well that was a Bank Holiday. All that was closed was the shops eg; CC San Eugenio appart from one or two, the Mercadona was closed, the Spar near to us was open all day.
All was as norm in the evening, was nice to see Spainish familes all out celebrating over a meal .

our local supermercardo La Colmena was opened on the 6th jan much to the disgust of the local staff.

However they did tell me that all Spanish workers on the island are entitled to double pay for the whole of December and the whole of August.

14 months pay a year now thats not something I was unaware of until then.
