Hi salucy ... you are only allowed one piece of hand luggage, which should contain individual items such as handbag, CD player, camera, valuables, etc. Dimensions vary according to airline and airport. For more info on MyTravel restrictions and dimensions, please click here.

We went to Goa in Dec with thomsonfly & decided to opt out of meals £12 each. We took sandwiches & other bites on board with, went down lovely with a glass of wine.

How do they know that you haven't paid for in flight meals? Its certainly not where you sit on the aircraft because until you check in you do not know where you are sitting (unless you have pre booked of course). To be honest I have in the past not paid for meals and have always been given one. Is it just another ploy to make more money? Anyone know the answer?

Dazbo - wonder if you can help me??

Usually fly First Choice Star Class Premier to Puerto Plata but am trying to get a cheaper holiday and Direct Holidays look good. They do a premier gold with Mytravel which seems much cheaper. How do you think they would compare? Don't know flight number but flying out of Manchester on 14 August. Have been very impressed with First Choice (having previously gone with Thomas Cook) and I am a bit wary of My Travel.
Any info much appreciated.

Caroline,

Both premium products are similar to be honest. FCA's SCP cabin probably has the edge, but only just in my opinion. Seat pitches are 36" in SCP compared to MYT's 35" (whats an inch!) and FCA's seat back IFE have slightly larger screens. Saying that, MYT have the external flight cameras so its swings and rounabaouts really (assuming they assign an Airbus A330-243 rather than their Boeing 767-31K's). Both are very good. My Travel are an excellent airline in my opinion. I've travelled with them quite a lot and once had a 52 hour delay with them in Jamaica when their DC10-30 went tech on us back in 2003 (now they were a proper airliner!). They were very professional and I'd have no hessitation in recommending them. FCA probably have the edge in terms of cabin interiors, but I prefer the Airbus A330-243 as an aircraft becasue its generally smoother and quieter than the Boeing (plus the A332's have British built wings and the mighty Rolls Royce Trent 700's powering them!).

If you were flying in economy, then I'd say go with FCA because you can't beat star class, but since you are wanting to upgrade, if the price is better with Direct, then I'd go with them.

Hope you have a grreat time,

Darren

Many thanks for that Darren.

Another question, I notice Thomson fly from Birmingham on a Tuesday to Puerto Plata. Didn't realize any flights went from Birmingham. This would suit us very well but just want to check it doesn't stop at Gatwick? The flight time is 9 hours so presume not but can you confirm.
Many thanks.

Caroline,

It's BHX - POP direct according to TOM's schedule and the flight time of 9hrs confirms it.

According to figures published at the end of January by the Air Transport Users Council (AUC) who are the consumer watchdog for the airline industry, based on last summer's figures, MyTravel is the most punctual charter airline with an average delay of only 14.1 minutes. They have apparently improved their punctuality for the third year running which considering the increased security checks is no mean feat. The statistics were based on flight data collected at Birmingham, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Glasgow, Heathrow, Luton, Manchester, Newcastle & Stansted airports.

In the report XL Airways and Monarch were ranked as the two worst performing charter airlines when it comes to time keeping.

Does anyone know what the MYT fleet will look like this year? Last year they had the 757 in the fleet (G-WJAN) dont know if they have got rid. We fly out to Gerona from Manchester in July, went on the same flight a couple of years ago and it was operated by the Finnair 757 both ways (although the scheadule said an A320 was on the run). I guess the 320/321, 330 and 767 will stay but will they be wet leasing again.

voyger79,

I think that question will be answered in the near future. With the MYT / TCX merger, I'm sure there will be a review of the respective fleets. G-WJAN is still with MYT as far as I know so just have to wait and see.
