Has anybody taken a day trip to egypt from the east side of cyprus, if so how much would I expect to pay and was it worth the money.
We paid about £250 each for a day trip (by air). Most people recommend it, and I'm glad I did it, but the hassle from beggars /street sellers started to get annoying. Everyone wants money off you - even the armed police at the pyramids who INSIST on having a photo taken with you (felt too scared to refuse!) And if you end up at the market at the end of the night it can get very stressful if you aren't used to constant haranging. A few of us holed up at a cafe and we were seeing the child street sellers off from all angles, with the cafe owner frequently assisting with a broom. It felt like the Alamo!
Still, I'm glad I did it but wouldn't do it again. Just my opinion.
ps - Take plenty of Cyprus £1 notes.

Thinking of booking the excursion with thomsons. what time do you get picked up from hotel in protaras for paphos flight? about what time would we get back?
thankyou in advance.
I am off to Cyrpus next May for two weeks. We would like to do the cruise to egypt.
Does anyone know of any travel companies in Protaras who do trips to Eygpt, as we are going in September and are comparing prices with Thomson.

Anyone just recently back? My friend has just returned and through Argo holidays their flights to Egypt were on Friday's. Is this the norm now? Last season it was Tuesday's only when I enquired.
Friday would be perfect for us as the Tuesday doesn't.
Can anyone confirm?
Thanks a lot in advance

Regency travel operate day trips to Egypt from Paphos on Tuesdays and Fridays
thanks for that cgphillips! Friday would suit us perfectly!
Thinking of doing the day flight to Egypt when we are over in September. Do we need to get worldwide travel insurance for going to Egypt?
Any advice
thanks

Does anyone know if there are strict rules in Egypt? I mean, do they have traditions that must be followed even by foreigners?
i would like to comment that my husband and i sailed from limassol on serenade, part of the louis travel fleet, in June 2007. we went on a 3 night mini cruise to Rhodes and Kos. This was our first cruise. The excursions we chose not to go on, preferred going off on our own to explore which was nice. caught a taxi to Faliraki and sat by the harbour relaxing. In Rhodes and Kos we went walking and sight seeing on our own and enjoyed it.
on the way back to Limassol the sea was very very choppy and i was seasick. Luckily there were plenty of sea sickness tablets on board at the reception which soon did the trick.
we went on the egypt trip in August 2007 for 2 nights. This was very interesting but quite an experience. We weren't quite prepared for the armed escort/body guard on each of the 14 coaches, and all the local police stopping all local traffic on every side walk, street and alley way whilst all our coaches went through Cairo and to the Pyramids.
on one hand felt like royalty, on another imaging what could happen if the police and army hadn't escorted us.
The pyramids and sphinx were lovely to see if it weren't for the hundreds of beggars- ''everything 1.00 pound'' Each time we tried to stop and take a photo they were all around you. The one good thing was, a policeman persuaded my husband to part with his camera, whilst he moved my arm in different positions and then took some photos. next he asked my husband to bend over and open his mouth. we couldn't for the life of us work out why until we saw the photos. My husband looks like he is a giant eating the pyramids- fabulous and for a few pounds it was worth it.
the nile lunch cruise was lovely but not enough time on board. the paper museum was ok, not really my cuppa tea. the museum where Tutankhamen's treasures are was mildly interesting [ museums are not my thing]
we wore shorts although wondered whether we should, but lots of others did. we didnt go down in to the pyramids - had heard they were confined spaces, but plenty of others did.
the sailing there and back was rough [ again i took tablets which staved off the sickness]
we are due to go on our last cruise to the holyland next week as my husband has always wanted to go. then i think we will call it a day after doing 3 this year.
all in all good value for money. we booked all 3 via louis travel direct in ayia napa and each trip has been between 175-200cyp each person. each time leaving it until a week or two before and had a discount. we live in Cyprus so it seems silly not to travel to these close by countries and experience other walks of life.
i would welcome any feedback or comments on the holy cruise trip. any further question splease ask - will help if i can.
We did a 3 day cruise to the Holy Land 20 years ago and it was wonderful. I wore shorts and a top, but covered up with a dress when we visited the religious sites.
we've just come back from Cyprus and we flew to Egypt, this was the best excursion i have ever done. Very tiring as it is a long day but absolutely worth it.
I think I would prefer the cruise as it would be an extremely long day for a 9 yearold.
We have just returned from a week in Paphos. I picked up a leaflet somewhere produced by Louis tours. The price of the Egypt tour by plane is £185 plus taxes or £165 plus taxes for a child. It doesn't say how much the taxes are. While in Cyprus I spoke to a couple who had done the cruise. That was £199 per adult so I presume there's not much to choose between them pricewise. They enjoyed the cruise but said it was a 3 hour drive each way to the pyramids and not long there, but too long at the papyrus factory. These prices are Cypriot pounds so allow for that. If you want more info from this leaflet let me know or try http://www.louistravel.com.cy
It was the website listed on the back of the leaflet, that's why I mentioned it.
hi all! could anybody tell me if you can still visit israel from cyprus,is it safe&how is the best way to do it & roughly how much ? thanks in advance
