its personal choice. we prefer nuweiba hilton coral or swisscare which is quieter then coral but both are very quiet and relaxing. i would say do dive course out therebetter weather, clearer sea and wonderfull coral to see. nothing to do outside of hotels in evening. so perhaps sharm would be better if you wish to go out in evening. read reviews and whatever you choose you will have wonderfull time in egypt.

Firstly, congratulations on almost reaching 25 years!!

If it is quiet you are after, I would suggest Nuweiba, it is peaceful and very beautiful. As for the diving, what I would suggest is either doing the course in England, or doing what they call a referral course. In the referral he will do all the theory work, and the pool dives, but not have to brave a cold quarry here in England. When you get out to the red sea, you just hand over the papers, and do the final 2 days of the course with the open water dives.

Enjoy!

Certainly Nuweiba is the perfect choice if you want peace, quiet and relaxation all in surroundings of amazing beauty with the open, spacious, sandy beaches, the sea, the Saudi Mountains and the Sinai Mountains.

Do the whole PADI open water dive course in Nuweiba. Just contact Sarah ( a fellow Spurs fan ) - get her contact details at

My cousin did the course with them and it went very well ( he is in his late 50s ) - took only 4 days, very safe and very personal and individual attention.

25 years? That's almost a life sentence!

If you prefer quiet, then Nuweiba it has to be. A lot more quiet than Sharm, a lot less hassle and even the hotel bosses seem to be friendly!

I can talk though, we'll be spending our 25th at Swisscare in July, then round to the Coral for my birthday.

Re the PADI, if you don't mind being apart from each other for 4 or 5 days (not all the time though), then do it all out there. It'll be cheaper.
But if you want to get straight into the water (after the checks of course), then the theory and pool work can be done before you go, followed up by the 4 open water dives in the warmth of the Red Sea.

All the other Nuweibaphiles are making recommendations so I should join in...

For a quiet and peacful, away from it all holiday Nuweiba is ideal. Elsewhere in the Red Sea you'll no doubt find excellent hotels, and great diving - but why take the risk?

Swisscare - big beach, lovely pool and very personal service. diving is next door so not far away.
Coral Hilton - all inclusive, nice beach though not as wide open as Swisscare. Excellent service is the norm, but not quite so personal. For diving, Enperor are on-site and mst of their dive training is done off the hotel beach so you wouldn't be separated for long.

We've had a couple of anniversaries there already - quiet word with reception and a fresh fruit gateaux appears in your room to greet you back from the beach. Quiet word in the restaurant and another appears for dessert..!

Check prices with someone like Longwoods then call someone like Jetline to get a better deal...

Another vote for Nuweiba, Alison.
I echo the congratulations on 25 years of wedded bliss! We would recommend Nuweiba to anybody for a complete "chill out" holiday, with excellent diving, snorkelling, scenery and most important of all, superb service! The weather? well, that is always lovely and we have been at virtually every time of year.

Do let us know wherever it is that you finally choose and have a great time!

Hi..

You have all been so kind in replying to my post.
I do have another question though...

How safe are we in the Red sea area. My hubby is a little concerned. I think mainly about the local unrest from time to time, if you know what I mean?

Many thanks

How many times do I have to remind you?
OUR 2 year old grandson! :kiss

Don't worry about it too much Alison. Nuweiba is highly unlikely to have any trouble (though it has happened in the distant past). Put it this way, would you travel to London after the recent troubles?

25 yrs was myself and my better half (Dolphin07).

I have also stayed at Nuweiba and that was when the bombs went off in Taba. Its a lovely quiet and relaxing place to go and chill out. I stayed at the Tropicana for 2 weeks, the food was a bit repetitive after 2 weeks. I also saw the Swisscare Hotel in near completion and that also looked very nice, it was next door to ours.
I also visited Cairo, saw the Pyramids, Sphinx and went to the Egyptian Museum, which was a lot easier to get to from Nuweiba.
Last November I went to Sharm, complete contrast to Nuweiba, very lively and busy resort.
I love Egypt and look forward to going there again.
Congrats on your 25th too.
