Hi groovybaby, Icmeler is less busy than Marmaris and people aren't so pushy to get you into their establishments. It is a more relaxed atmosphere and you feel very safe walking around late at night. We have stayed in Icmeler twice and simply love the place. Until now, I had never heard of Marmaris being compared to Blackpool, only Bodrum. This we were told by some friends who had been when we were Booking up to go to Gumbet.

Comparing prices, Kalkan is cheaper than Icmeler as we found out last May. In fact, we are returning here in September for two weeks on 20th, returning to the same Hotel, something we have never done in the past, Hotel Nur(near where the weekly Market is held). Check out Hotel Review and also go to Kalkan Discussion Forum, the last posting on this was Feb 2nd. The people in Kalkan seem even more friendly than Icmeler if that is at all possible !! I have been to icmeler many times and i agree with the above discription. I personally dont like Marmaris as it is too busy for me. It is very chilled out in icmeler, and at midnight the mjusic has to be turned down, so if you do fancy an earlier night your able to get one!!

Got to agree with you on Icmeler, it will be our 7th time when we return in June.

I also went to Kalkan and loved it but this was about 8 years ago and my knee is bad with arthritis and I feel it could be too steep for me now. I noticed you are returning to The Nur which is a hotel I fancy. Is there a lot of steps around the complex? Could probably managed the walk downhill but I doubt if I could get back without a cab, We used to love walking along that pier with the waves lapping the rocks. Just thinking about it makes me want to go back.

Hi Barbara, At the entrance there are about 8 steps down into the Hotel complex and then another 20 to get to the pool at the back. If you were to stay here, I would be inclined to e-mail the owner and explain your problem and he would no doubt give you an easily accessible room. I put a link to the Hotel website on the Kalkan Forum for people to draw their own conclusions. Baris and Bobbie are simply marvellous people and I am sure would be only too happy to accommodate you in any way they can. The hospitality and friendliness of the staff is one of the reasons we are going back, that and the fact that we got a really good deal. Go and have a look at the Kalkan Forum. If you did decide to go back to Kalkan, then I am sure, that like us, you will want to go back again despite the arthritis. Going off topic, have you thought about going and seeing an Accupuncturist to see if they can help ?? I had a dodgy knee which kept letting me down and three sessions later and I was cured. Soon after, we went to Santorini and I was as active as a Mountain Goat. Going up the volcano and the mountain as well as down all those steps to Thira Harbour !!

Icmeler and Marmaris are the "more upmarket areas" compared to Kalkan.

Ive no idea who would compare Marmaris or Icmeler to Blackpool because there is no comparison, (my apologies to anyone with a soft spot for blackpool but I find it a repulsive overpriced rundown s*** hole.)

You're having a laugh marmaris is blackpool except it aint got a nice beach like blackpool. blackpool beach makes marmaris and icmeler beaches look like old pits. saying marm and icmeler are upmarket is like saying burger king is classy grub

marmaris and ichmeler is nothing like blackpool , in blackpool there is an amusement arcade on every corner , none of that in turkey ,thank god.

i think a lot of it is to do with the sort of people places attract rather than the place itself, and i have to say that marmaris compared to a lot of turkish places seems to attract a lot of rough brits, even the brits that live in marmaris say this. im not saying everyone is like that just a per centage that can spoil it for others, before people start commenting, but it does get a lot of loud mouthed beer swilling people and sometimes im embarrassed to be british when i hear the way some people talk to the waiters etc, everyone likes different things and its fine if you like that sort of thing, we prefer a quieter place with nice scenery , and i love marmaris out of season, icmeler is quieter

Have to agree. Marmaris and Icmeler pits for Brits. There are much better places to see in Turkey....if you are interested in more than sun sea and sex!

You have got me a bit puzzled as I could have swore by your posts asking about quad biking in Marmaris that you were going there with your family.

I could be wrong but if so why do you slag the place off in this post.

Also is there any chance of letting me in on where all the sex goes on in Icmeler as it gets a bit boring being out there all season seeing EVERYTHING that goes on so maybe I should lokk harder for the orgies

I go to Icmeler for Sun Sea and Effes.

Must tell the wife we are missing an important part of our holiday.

so far we have been to altinkum,bodrum,gumbet,and side.all once.
we have been to marmaris three times.
we have been on three gulet cruises
we have been to icmeler eight times,and go again in five weeks.it has always been my favourite.a good value destination with lovely people.as for the orgy i'm available just have to get the good lady's permission.
