like most people who go abroad for there family holidays, we all want the 2 weeks that we have worked hard for all year round to be relaxing and enjoyable as much as possible, i am thinking of going in November to Corralejo, so ive done the hotel/apparment reviews and done searches of others, and ive taken every thing in to account of all peoples replies like time off year, party size, and ages ect... and ive complied my own star rating aswell, and to be honest there is not a lot of choice of appartments apart from a few to pick from,
ok you may think i'm been a bit to fussy, but i'm on a low wage working two jobs like most of us these days, it is just a shame not to be carefull and throw your hard earned cash down the drain on a holiday from hell.
any views welcome
Who is going on holiday, what do you like to do and what services in the apartments do you need?
there is me and the mrs, an 8 year old girl and a baby this year, so we look for apartments with good hygine, good pool, and facilities, and family bars in the resort, with good safe beach and seas,
We have just returned from the Club Caleta Dorada, we had a great time but it is up a hill at the back of the resort and if you want to go to local bars and restaurants there are plenty of nice apartments and hotels much nearer to the town centre and beach. There are two lovely Barcelo hotels both right on the beach (one is a proper hotel, the other is apartments). I've been pricing up the Broncemar Beach (Thomas Cook UK exclusive) for a possible return visit, this is near to the shops and some nice bars and restaurants, and only a short stroll to the beach, and also has lots of family activities and entertainment within the hotel. We walked past it a few times and it always sounded like fun
The Papagayo is about the same walk wise, but it has the water park and everything else right on the doorstep. I have a map of Correlejo with all of the accommodation marked on it, if you want one.
They both have large pool areas and have entertainment if you want it. I have walked the grounds of both hotels on numerous occasions and never seen any litter lying around.
Having read some of the reviews on both hotels, you get mostly good with the odd bad one. I would never eat the food in any complex that wasn't a proper hotel, plus Correlejo has some fantastic restaurants (see reviews above, but I am biased)
I don't like Caleta as a resort,it's too touristy and English. I am aware that Correlejo has its share of English bars and restaurants, but I find Caleta more expensive for decent food. I know I can get a full English brekkie and pie chips and mushy peas for a lot cheaper in Caleta than Corrie but when it comes to a good steak, I think Caleta is more. I know I can't get a decent Cortado(short strong milky coffee) for the 80-90 cents I pay in Corrie. The reason being that Corrie is popular as a holiday destination for the Spanish as well as the English, so the food is more authentic, some restaurants stay open late and there is a better choice of Spanish food.
The beach in Caleta is gently shelving but so is the town beach here in Correlejo, plus there are loads of nice places to sit and watch the world go by and have a cold drink, by the sea.
I really digress, sorry.
Some complexes here are old and need a refurb, but they are clean. I understand that you want the best holiday you can get, so I would get the best you can afford. Have you thought about independent flights and renting an apartment?
If I can be of any further help, let me know.
