altinkum in turkey was the worst for us, six of us for 2 weeks and at least 2 were "hotel bound" each day!!!! never had anything like it or since!!!!
NEVER AGAIN !!
but on the subject of what can cause it .... ice cold water should be avoided .... this can create a lot of problems and you will find the locals never drink ice cold drinks,
chilly
i been to ibiza a few times never ever had probs there apart from self inflicted sickness
Never ever had it on my Holls & don't want it, could be I am immune to it after 2 years in the middle east or have a cast iron stomach or more likely have been very lucky hope I don't regret saying this
What you get Gastritus or Campylobactor in London? Because DB is often dismissed as a dose of the s***ts which is one thing but getting the full eruption and rapid dehydration is another.
The reason I was asking about the N/S Goa scenario is beacause of the well known fact that the top end of Baga is where most of the 'bugs' are. This area has been tested in the past and so has Coco beach. They are both problematic areas where rivers join the sea, both areas where there is known sewage dumping!
Never had DB in the South or Candolim.
Well said Neil
Never had DB in the South or Candolim.
I stay in Sinquerim every year (south of Candolim) and I usually have a day or two of sh*** dehydration and sickness every year.
The point I was trying to make is - that there are people who are more susceptible to tummy problems than others.
My wife can go to the toilet maybe 2 or 3 times in 4 weeks.
Anybody had problems with Giardiasis?
Giardiasis sounds nasty.
Yes 'Delhi Belly' covers everything from the serious to not so serious stomach upset.
It's like when Indian people say that one of their family has 'sickness'! The problem is that because India is such a filthy place their are so many bugs that you never hear of over here.
Holland and Barrett have a big sale on just now so must check their website. But these little tablets are wonderful, not one single bout of the dreaded delhi belly
Gemma never heard of these tablets, have you taken them before and do they work?
Holland and Barrett have a 70% off sale just now. Ive ordered mine online and they were only £3.28 for 100. You take two a day, starting a month before you go and 2 a day for the duration of your holiday. They really work and are worth the money.
Another HTer recommended them to me last season. They are a mild probiotic and put good bacteria back into your system. You should try them, you will be pleasanly surprised!
I'll give them a go as I always get some sort of stomach upset when in Goa.
Great advice on this thread. I've just ordered some acidophilus tablets but we leave in 2 weeks, do you think thats enough time for them to be effective?
they really are worth taking ,started ours last week we leave
on the 10th nov,you have to keep them in a fridge once opened,
most hotels in Goa have fridges.
Ann
Didnt have a single upset stomach in February or April, so as I said to Datsun they are well worth the money (even without then 70% discount!)
Been taking mine a few weeks now Gemma - worked for me last time.
I've been over 10 times and had delhi belly once. It doesn't compare in the slightest to an upset stomach ! I can honestly say I have never felt as ill as I was then. Lasted 12 hours in total and the doctor came out because I'm diabetic. Never had it since and wouldn't wish it on anyone. I still feel lightheaded just thinking about it.
Time to start taking the ACIDOPHILUS tablets again
Eating yogurt or drinking Lassi can be just as effective, and definitely more enjoyable.
Maintenance of a healthy gut flora is, dependent on many factors, especially the quality of food intake.
Including a significant proportion of prebiotic foods in the diet has been demonstrated to support a healthy gut flora and may be another means of achieving the desirable health benefits promised by probiotic tablets.
Prebiotics are yogurt, lassi etc.
